That night, my flashback this time was about when Allen got accepted into Stanford University. He was packing up his car and getting ready to head out after a week of my parents and him dropping off some of his stuff in his dorm room. We left his room clean and tidy for him when he came to visit. I remember that this was my freshman year of high school so we both had a new school to deal with. Allen sat down with me the night before and gave me the high school advice load. I always wondered how he did it, growing up without an older sibling's advice. Maybe my parents gave him all this advice or he learned it the hard way. The morning he left, he gave me a big hug and told me to stay strong, and stay his happy little sister. We stood in the road watching him drive off until we couldn't see his car.
Starting high school without him was hard, but at least he would call me at the end of every week and we would talk about how our new school life was going. He always told me how there were hallway parties on Friday nights and that he was nervous about taking Shelby to their first college homecoming dance. I saw that picture on his Facebook page. Shelby's dress was sky blue with glitter on the skirt. Her hair was both braided and up in a bun, it looked like it took hours to do. Her nails were silver and she looked like a model. Allen looked like a whole new man. His tuxedo made him look like he was attending a royal wedding. It was perfect how his tie was the exact same shade of blue as Shelby's dress. That just told me how much Allen loved Shelby. The picture he shared next, Allen leaned his head on Shelby's with his eyes closed. His facial expression showed how in love he was with Shelby. I like Shelby, she took great care of my brother and she was like my sister. When Allen told me about the proposal, I kept thinking about how lovely Shelby would be as a bride. She would have looked like a winter princess and she would have been the perfect wife for Allen.
When we told Shelby what happened, she was there with us in the hospital while Allen was in treatment. She cried with us when the doctors told us Allen didn't make it and was one of the first ones to arrive at his funeral, and one of the last ones to leave after Allen was buried. She's going to cherish that ring just like Allen cherished his love for Shelby and she did for him. I really want to know who's responsible for tearing apart our family and Shelby's relationship with Allen. Whoever they are, they messed with the wrong family. I woke up around 5:21 in the morning and couldn't go back to sleep. I decided to get up and take a shower. I had an early breakfast and texted Kate. I knew she was still asleep, but she'd text me back as soon as she woke up around 6:00. I was ready for school a whole hour early, so I watched TV in my room. I was watching the news and my brother's case came back on. I suddenly fell into a trance, hoping to find out who this monster is that killed my brother. I want to know, I want to know! The reporter was literally about to go into detail about what the drunk driver's car looked like, but my alarm to leave for school went off, so I had to leave. Kate responded a long time ago saying that she's going to the school early so we can talk about it. I didn't want to talk about my flashback, I wanted to talk about what I just saw on the news.
