John's POV

I was getting ready with the band early this morning for our evening performance. It was quite foggy out. We played a few numbers; That'll Be The Day by Buddy Holly, Pretty Woman by Elvis Presley, and all that. I guess you could say we were pretty popular at our school, and in all of the really local spots in Liverpool, but we were nothing fancy.

"Ya think we're ready? Gig's at 7:30." My mate Pete Shotton asked. "Yeah, I think we're fine." I said tossing my guitar into its case. Me and my band went downstairs from my bedroom where we usual practiced and my Auntie kissed me goodbye. I scowled at her. "Good luck, Johnny!" She called to me. "Yeah, whatever..." I said shutting the front door.

We went off to the park we usually performed at, it had a pretty nice bandstand and a good crowd. I spotted my buddy Ivan in the audience and gave him a friendly best-friend middle finger with a smile. He rolled his eyes and started talking to this bird he brought with him. Pretty good looking lass. Probably Ivan's new girlfriend.

I went on playing and her eyes met with mine at one point and I almost dropped my guitar. I recovered my mistake quickly and went on with my singing. I don't know how she made me do that, but she did. At the end of our gig we walked around the neighborhood and everyone returned home. Except me.

My aunts house was at the end of the neighborhood, you could call it semi-detached. As I was walking along the street it started to rain. I put my coat over my head and sighed. As I was walking, my eyes restricted slightly from the coat, I bumped into someone. It was a girl, I could tell by her voice. "Oh, I'm so sorry!" She said looking up at me.

"I didn't see you, the rain coming off of my umbrella made it hard to see..." She said. "Oh, no, it's fine. Just be more careful." I said noticing her somewhat familiar sage-brown eyes. "Did you happen to be at the park this evening?" I asked. "Oh- Why, yes. You were the lead guitarist weren't you?" She asked with a quizzical expression.

"Actually, yes. My name's John." I said wiping a small smudge of mud off of my pant leg. She looked at me noticing my lack of protection from the rain. "Oh, dear, looks like weather isn't your friend today, huh." She said with a giggle and put her umbrella over my head. "I guess not. Thank you." I said smiling.

"I really like your voice. Your guitar is a little rough, no offense." She said laughing. My friend Ivan Vaughan brought me. I suppose you are friends with him as well?" She said pulling the hood of her coat up. "Oh, yeah Ivan's a good mate of mine." I said. "He has the exact same birthday as me, isn't that funny?" She said.

She had the most wonderful laugh. "My name is Jamie, by the way." She said. She cleared her throat, "Well, I'm heading that way, see you sometime else." She said giving me this lovely smile that made me absolutely helpless. "Um, okay. Good day, sunshine." I said flirtatiously. She giggled and waved goodbye to me.

I walked home the rest of the way and opened the front door of my aunt's house. I still had this foolish smile on my face that I'd had since I saw her. "Well, look who's smiling? John what's got you in such a good mood?" Aunt Mimi said with a laugh. "Nothing, Mimi." I said wiping that stupid smile off my face.

"Well, off to bed with you now." Mimi said shaking her head. I ran up to my bedroom took my shirt off and flopped onto my bed. I turned out the light with that foolish smile sneaking its way back to me. I sighed a happy sigh and went to sleep.
