Chapter 2

Zak POV

I started to panic.

Another person?

I haven't seen anyone in a year.

How to react?

What do I say?

What-

A person was pushed into the room and the door was slammed behind them. He had brown hair and green eyes, he was much taller than me.

"Oh my goodness, they're so aggressive." He mumbled.

For the first time the silence was broken. I felt as if a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders.

He stood up and spotted me. He gave a small smile, "Hello."

He walked over and sat next to me, "Nice to meet you."

I was terrified.

What if he's going to hurt me?

What if he thinks I'm crazy?

He must have noticed my panic because he gave me a soft smile and said, "I'm not going to hurt you, what's your name?"

I decided he was friendly but I kept my guard up.

"I'm Zak."

He smiled, "Well Zak, I'm Darryl."

He stuck out his hand for me to shake but I held back. It's been one year. One year without human contact. He noticed my hesitance and pulled back his hand, "How long have you been here?"

"One year." I mumbled.

He looked alarmed, "One year?"

"One year in silence." I said.

"What?"

"I think they've been trying to drive me crazy. They kept me in silence for a year." I said.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

"Fine." I said.

"You don't seem fine." He said.

Was I fine?

Sure, I am a little crazy and a little depressed. But it's not my fault right?

Or maybe it is.

Maybe I was such a horrible person that I deserved to be here.

"How old are you?" Darryl asked.

"I turned 19 last month."

"Well I'm 24." He said with a smile, "Friends?"

"Well, it's getting late we should get some sleep." I said.

I'm such an idiot.

He frowned but said, "How can you tell what time it is?"

"You get used to it." I replied.

"Okay well, goodnight Zak."

"Goodnight Darryl."
