Darryl POV
A scream echoed throughout the room causing everyone to go silent. I saw a man, not much older than me, laying on the floor.
Zak shot him.
Is Zak a bad person?
No, that man deserved what just happened to him.
I tried to convince myself.
No he didn't. No one deserves death.
"Everyone out of the way!" Zak shouted.
No one moved.
Zak shot another guard and yelled, "Move now!"
They all scrambled to move away from the door, not wanting to be next. Once the path was clear Zak walked ahead of us, seeming confident.
He motioned for us to follow him as he made is his way through the crowd of people. We all walked behind him. I expected a guard to jump out and shoot me at any second, but nothing happened.
We walked through the door and into the outside world.
Zak POV
Guilt threatened to bubble up inside of me.
I just shot two innocent men.
No. They deserved it.
Is this what I've become?
A monster?
Someone who kills people for fun?
Did they really drive me crazy while I was in that room, without me even realizing it?
No, I'm not crazy, it's self defense.
Tears pricked my eyes as I blinked a couple of times.
Don't cry.
A tear rolled down my cheek and I quickly wiped it away.
I walked in front of everyone so they wouldn't see me crying. I motioned for them to follow me.
I'm not the type of person to cry for no reason
But I felt like I was about to break down right then and there.
I killed three people today.
Three.
We made it to the doors and we walked outside.
After a year of being indoors, I was finally outside.
I tried to enjoy the fresh air, the birds singing, the liveliness, but I couldn't.
Tears blurred my vision and it became hard to breathe.
"I'll be right back guys." I said before running off.
Not knowing where I was going.
