I sat in my usual seat in our French class, focusing on the cinnamon pretzel bites I bought from Auntie Anne's last period.
Yet another sub who didn't take attendance.
Unfortunately, I went by myself because none of my friends were in that class with me. It was mostly kids I knew but only recognized as acquaintances.
I looked up to see Rowan once again ticking off Mr. Melrose as our classmates watched. Turning to River, I noticed the strangest thing. He was actually sleeping in class.
No way.
I held in a laugh as I recorded him and saved the video in my Snapchat Memories. I looked at him noticing how peaceful he was. His head was rested on his arms and his pink lips were slightly parted.
I decided to wake him up knowing our observant teacher would notice and call him out for it. I moved my chair over at our table closer towards him. I put my hand on his arm, noticing his slight muscles.
"River. Wake up," I whispered into his ear shaking him lightly. He only moved his head facing downwards and continued to sleep. "Wake up."
His arm suddenly shot up from its position and easily pushed my chair away. "Five more minutes," he groaned lowly.
I tried my hardest not to laugh but I did, bringing attention to myself. Everyone turned around and Rowan quickly caught on, purposely dropping her metal bottle onto the floor. Everyone quickly turned back, "My bad!"
Mr. Melrose shook his head and continued talking to the class about his plans for our France trip.
"So I thought it'd be fun to go to France this year seeing this is a French class. Obviously. The trip is a week long and is during your Spring Break in April. So just make sure to mark your calendars if you plan on going."
(Five minutes later)
I scooted back over to River as our classmates talked about the trip.
"I gave you five minutes River. Melrose is going to notice," I whispered. This time he listened, sitting back in his chair with tired eyes.
"Are you okay?" I looked at him concerned as he rubbed his eyes.
"I'm fine. Just couldn't sleep last night."
I nodded, I didn't want to pry."Well, I forgot to ask before but usually some of us go to my parent's cabin on the countryside and stay the weekend after Homecoming. Can you come?"
"Yeah. I can go."
"Great."

It was finally the day of Homecoming, the team had won the game the night before and everyone was honestly in a good mood. I smoothed my dress out one more time before heading downstairs with Rowan.
