don't tell me

The next morning, I slowly got ready for another week in school. Staying up majority of the night, trying to piece together parts of my senior film.

I had postponed it basically all of first semester, and wasn't about to continue with second semester approaching in January.

Especially if I didn't want to fail a class that I signed up for.

I decided to just go with a Astroworld hoodie and a pair of denim jeans with Air Forces, and made my way downstairs into the kitchen.

Romeo was seated on the kitchen island's stool with Rita's french toast sticks, River directly across from him with a bagel as he kept his eyes on his phone. I quickly walked up to River and wrapped my arms around him, pressing against his back.

"Hi," I said, kissing his cheek a couple of times.
"Hey, Lia," he had a smile on his face as he laughed at my gesture.

"Don't tell me, you guys are going to act like this in the car," Romeo scrunched up his nose in disgust.
"Oh shut up, big baby." I sat on the stool next to him and playfully pushed his arm, "So, how are rehearsals?"

"To be honest, I did it only to get Hailey at first, but theatre is actually fun."
"Noo, really?"
"Watch the sarcasm, Ophelia."

Before I could argue, River put down a bag with a cinnamon-raisin bagel and a yogurt in front of me.

Smiling, I leaned over to give him another kiss, "Thanks."
"Of course."

Suddenly, my dad walked downstairs into the kitchen where we were seated.

"Good morning," although he didn't direct it at anyone he seemed more interested in River than Romeo and I.

"River, could I talk to you in my study?"

"Yes, sir."

As he got up even Romeo had a fearful expression on his face.

"I was beginning to like him too," he said in pity, "Looks like you're out of a boyfriend."
"Oh shut up," I nudged his arm before pacing in the kitchen as I bit into the bagel.

"You know how dad is. Especially when mom isn't around to stop him. I'd eavesdrop if I were you," he continued.
"I don't want to."
"But you need to."

I thought about the point Romeo was making but before I could make a decision, River and my dad were back in the kitchen.

"Romeo, I'm dropping you off today," our dad stated.
"Okay? See you guys later," Romeo said before walking out with our dad.

He sounded just as confused as I was. I wanted to know what they talked about, but at the same time I didn't want to budge.

"You ready?" River asked, shaking me of my wandering thoughts.
I nodded in response before we headed out and drove down the icy roads to our school.

He stopped in the parking lot and turned towards me, a smile slowly appearing, "I know you're wondering why your dad wanted to talk to me."

I shrugged, "I mean... it isn't that important."
Laughing, he shook his head and picked up my hand, "Sure."

He continued, "I had to ask your dad something about this weekend. I decided to go to L.A. and I want you to come with me- ONLY if you want to, that is."

Silence filled the car as I thought about going to L.A. It would be my first time on the West Coast, and I could just imagine not having to deal with snow for a couple of days.

"Of course I want to. It'll be fun," I responded.
"Great," he sighed as I laughed at his usual nervousness.

He checked his watch before looking out at the school, "Y'know we don't have anything to do since it's finals week and neither of our first periods are core classes."

I smiled, "What are you saying?"
"I'm saying...we should skip," he had a smile on his face as he leaned closer towards me.
"And go where exactly?"
"My moms aren't home."

We were only centimeters away from each other as I looked at the smile he had on his face before backing away slowly.

I buckled my seatbelt once more, "Okay."
