Gabe

I groaned as I locked the front door behind me, tossing my stuff onto the couch. I really wanted to rest, but I was hungry so I scoured the fridge and cupboards to find something to satisfy my sweet tooth.

I practically growled as I slammed the cupboard door shut and sank down onto the couch. He never has anything sweet, even though he knows about my sweet tooth and we stay here every weekend.

There was a jangling as keys unlocked the front door and Chuck stumbled into the house, groceries in hand. "Oh, Gabe! I thought you wouldn't be here until later."

I shrugged. "I don't have anything to do after school and I really don't want to study with Sam and Dean. Did you get anything sweet?"

Chuck nodded, gesturing for me to follow him to the kitchen. I helped him put away the groceries, grabbing the Skittles as I settled back down on the couch, promising to put my backpack up later.

"Why do you do it?" I asked, knowing that Chuck would understand what I was asking. This was one of the only times I could because Cas was out.

"Gabriel," he sighed. "You know I can't tell you that. It would —"

"Defeat the purpose. I know," I interjected, having heard him say it a million times. "I'm just tired of this. It's nice not having to stop the Apocalypse and everything, but I want to go back to the real world, where I can avoid Sam and Jess."

Chuck turned his back on me to hide his facial expression. "Gabe —"

"I know. I can't do that. The point of these time loops is to get us together, but I can't handle the heartbreak anymore."

"How did you know?" he asked, startled.

"In every timeline, Sam falls in love with me and in every timeline he chooses Jessica in the end. I understand, at this point, why we keep resetting, living through the same thing a million times over again." Chuck merely nodded and began cutting some onions for dinner.

"If Sam and I are meant to get together, why did you create a timeline where we were step brothers? Clearly we couldn't get together then."

Chuck actually laughed, a full bellied laughter. "You need a break from constant disaster," he replied, but I just stared at him, not believing that was the only reason why. Chuck sighed, realizing he wasn't getting anywhere with leaving it there. "I thought he would remember how close you two were in the next timeline. That didn't quite work out so well," he finally answered.

"No, it didn't. It did result in some hilarious hijinks though, and that carried over."

"Do you remember how pissed Lucifer was?" Chuck asked, laughing. "He and Balthazar were supposed to be the ones tricking everybody. It was hilarious to see them being the ones pranked for once."

"And when we filled Anna's shampoo with bright blue hair dye... she wouldn't talk to us for weeks!" I exclaimed, trying to contain my laughter.

Chuck shook his head, chuckling to himself as he tossed the vegetables into a pan.

"Despite the heartbreak, these alternate universes have been a great break from reality, and I learned quite a bit," I said now leaning on the counter, watching him cook.

"Like what?"

"Like... you were supposed to put the meat in after the vegetables are sauteed," I pointed out, laughing at the blush rising to Chuck's ears and the frustrated look on his face.
