I greedily devour the hot, sticky copper-laden liquid until I can sense no more pulse beating in the now-dead man. Like a dehydrated man in the desert, my throat burns for more. The thirst is so strong that it hurts. The fire in my throat is hotter than the fire that coursed through my body just hours ago. I investigate the room for an exit. I find the only exit just to find out it's locked. I resign to the fact that I am trapped and walk back to the corpse.

As I'm sucking what little blood I can from the corpse, I hear the door unlock. I look up with a jolt and see a boy. This must be Riley, I think to myself. "Welcome to the life of a vampire." says the boy, "My name is Riley. Your creator left me in charge of you. Did the man give you enough satisfaction?" A low growl escaped my chest as I said, "No, I need more. Please, give me more before my throat catches on fire!" The growl surprised me. I didn't realize I was capable of producing such an animalistic sound.

"We will go hunting as soon as you calm down!" Riley growled back at me. "There are some rules that you must follow before we hunt. We are not allowed to be in the sun. We only hunt at night. When we hunt, you will hunt with a few others. You must only hunt those that won't be missed in the morning. Be neat with your hunt. Don't leave any messes. You must be back to our house before the sun begins to rise, so keep your eyes on the horizon. If you fail to follow these rules, then you will not be allowed to hunt for a week."

I glare at him, "Is that all, Riley? If it is, can we please hunt? I am so thirsty I can't handle it!" Riley looks at me, quickly looks back, and says, "Yes, let's go to the house and introduce you to the others. Then you will be placed with a hunting party." Riley leads me out of what turns out to be the storm shelter of what seems to be an old abandoned farm.
