A/N: I would love to have some feedback. Please comment on my stories that way I'll know if you love it, like it, or hate it. Thank you so much for reading!
The girl sat by me reading one of her books. She still seemed tense from the earlier confrontation. Riley walked into the room, followed by that jerk, Raoul, and his friends. They did not seem as antsy as they had been earlier. Good, I thought to myself. Hopefully they've learned their lesson. One of Raoul's friends kept looking towards the girl. When I'd see him looking, I'd push my aura out further towards him. He finally gave up.
There are times that I wonder why Riley allows everyone to be so rambunctious. It's as if the others are kindergartners in an after-school program, all running a muck and causing chaos. They were constantly fighting and yelling at one another. My sofa moved just slightly, and I looked down in time to see the girl place some of her books in a neat stack. I am so thankful for her. If it weren't for her, I would be bored to death, no pun intended. Thankfully, the sun was beginning to set. I am so ready to feed I can barely control it. I wonder if I'll see Sidney Lynn again.
"Um, Fred, must be about your turn," Riley said, with his back towards me. I let out a sigh because I don't want to leave the girl behind, but after what happened earlier, I knew that my presence would be even more obvious. As I left the house, I looked back in time to see the girl sneak out. Thank goodness, I thought to myself. Now that that worry was gone, I could hunt without anything breaking my concentration. I decide to head to the countryside. I take my time, gazing up at the stars. It's a beautiful night, and with the new vampire senses everything is intensified. I am hungry, but I decide to lay on the grass of a beautiful meadow. I had gone west. This was a beautiful meadow, but I was beginning to feel anxious. I smelled a mixture of vampire and human in the area. I did not hear anything, but I was still worried. Suddenly, the vampire scent got stronger. Before I could even move, I heard a male's voice.
"Don't be scared. I won't hurt you, unless you give me a reason to hurt you. I can tell by your thoughts that you're no foe. Please, stand up and allow me to see you." I was shocked. Normally, others couldn't even tell I was there because of my aura. "My name is Edward. What aura are you talking about? Is this why I can only hear your thoughts, but have no desire to search for you?" I decide to be brave and talk back, though I don't believe talking would have made any difference. "My name if Fred. I am just laying on the grass, watching the stars. They're so beautiful." I replied. Edward asked me, "Would you please allow me into your aura, that way we may speak to each other?" I decide to take that chance. He walks up to me. I can tell immediately something is different with him. His eyes aren't that of a vampire, but he is a vampire. Reading my thoughts, Edward replied, "I am part of a family that refuses to eat human blood. We call ourselves vegetarians." He chuckles at that. "We feed off of wild animals. It allows us to be 'normal' in human society."
I am entranced by the idea of being able to interact with humans once again, and before I even had the question out, Edward replied, "Of course I'll show you how to hunt like us. How did you find my meadow, by the way? Only one other person knows of this meadow." Edward allowed me to explain the traditional way, which I was thankful for. I wasn't used to having a conversation without actually speaking. "Well, shall we? I smell a few deer towards the east of us." He said as he shot off into the trees.
I followed Edward through the forest. It wasn't hard to keep up with him. We found the group of deer. I began to wonder how we feed when he interrupted my thoughts, "You feed the same way you would on a human. Just sink your teeth into the jugular vein and drink. It is easier if you snap the neck first, though." I decide to go for the smallest doe. She put up a weak fight and was immediately immobilized by my vampire strength. I sank my fangs into her and began to drink.
The taste was unlike any human blood I had ever tasted. It was wonderful. After drinking from many homeless people, it was refreshing to drink from something so pure and unmarked by chemicals and cholesterol. Also, I didn't have to burn the body to make it seem like an accident. As I was noisily drinking from the doe, my thoughts went to the girl and the group. Edward must have been listening to my thoughts because he suddenly said, "Why do you only go out at night? Yes, the girl you call Sidney Lynn is telling the truth. We don't perish in the sunlight. I do believe your maker has some explaining to do to you." That comment made me think of how I turned into a vampire. "Oh, Fred, that's a terrible way to become a vampire, but it happens to most of us. Some of us are fortunate to have the vampire that created us by our side to explain our new life to us. I would love for you to meet the rest of my group, but I would need to talk to them about it first. Please, come back one day. You have a lot to learn. Let's part ways for now because I can tell you're anxious about getting back to the house. I hope that girl is safe." Edward shook my hand as we bid our farewells and went our separate ways.
I headed back east, stopping for another deer. This time, it was a healthy young buck. I could tell the sun was rising. I wanted to test what Edward said was true, but I knew I needed to get back and keep the girl safe. I found the scent of one of the others and followed it to the house. An all too familiar scent hit me. Great, I thought. Someone had decided to make a bonfire out of another. I walk to the corner, just staring at the fire. I picked up one of the books that was left to me. The girl walks in, looks at me with a questioning face, and walked right behind me. I didn't want my aura to affect her, so I controlled it. She began to look at me. She was staring at me with a surprised look on her face. She began to look around and started to grin. I looked at her. When she looked back at me, I smiled at her. Not knowing what to say, I went back to reading. She eventually sat down, still tense for some reason, and began flipping through the book she had read last night. I suspected she hadn't really been reading after all.
