Dejonté's POV
Giles Middle School
Today is now Tuesday and I just finished my math class. I was about to walk out of the classroom until my teacher, Ms. Bennington, stopped me.
Ms. B: "Dejonté, can I talk to you for a moment?"
Dejonté: "C'mon...again?!"
Ms. B: "Yes, again. I'm serious this time."
I then stayed behind and saw the other students walking out of the classroom. I saw DeMarcus walking out of the classroom followed by...Katie. I honestly forgot she was in the same class as me. She notices me staring back at her and she hurries out of the classroom with the other kids.
Ms. B: "Dejonté, now please."
Dejonté: "Yeah I'm coming."
I made my way over to Ms. Bennington's teacher desk.
Ms. B: "Do you know why kept you from leaving the class?"
Dejonté: "Nope. Not at all."
Ms. Bennington opens a draw from under her desk and pulls out a bunch of papers. She then places them on her desk.
Ms. B: "Do you know what this is?"
I look through the stack sheet of papers. Every single one of them were math test we've taken over the year. They each had my name on it and big F next to it.
Dejonté: "It's about my grade isn't it."
Ms. B: "No, it's more than that now."
I look back at my teacher.
Ms. B: "This is about your future Dejonté. You didn't pass a single test throughout the whole year. You never went to the tutor for help, you never came to me for help."
She continued to look at me like as if she except words of truth to fall out my mouth. I broke the eye contact we had and just stared at the objects of her desk. She had a lot of music notes on her desk for a math teacher. Why couldn't she just teach music or some shit. I just get really bored when it comes to math.
Ms. B: "Is everything okay at home?"
HELL NAH!
Dejonté: "Yeah um it's going good."
Ms. B: "Please DJ-"
Dejonté: "Dejonté."
Ms. B: "I'm sorry, Dejonté. I just don't want you to lie to me. I know who your dad is and what he does."
Sheesh who doesn't?
Ms. B: "Heh it's like who doesn't right?"
Even my teacher thinks the same thing.
Ms. B: "Look, me and your mom spoke."
Dejonté: "Why?"
Ms. B: "Oh why? Well let's see."
She then opens the drawer of her desk again and this time it's a list. She then close the drawer and starts to speak again.
Ms. B: "In just your first year of middle school you have been known for skipping class for 34 days, 6 school fights, known to be associated with gangs, selling drugs, broke curfew 13 times."
Dejonté: No, it was 12 times. I told you that I had to take out the trash that time."
Ms. B: "Who takes their garbage out at 2:54 in the morning?"
Dejonté: "Uhh me."
Ms. B: "But it says here you took nearly a whole hour to come back home."
Dejonté: "I was tired."
