Harlow felt all the moisture leave his mouth. His breathing stopped. His heart quickened. His fists tightened. His jaw clenched. His vision went blurry.

"No, she's not." He choked out. "Angel, you can't say things like that."

"What-? Angel?" (Y/n) winced at the name he'd given her. "Will you unlock the door now?"

Harlow shook his head adamantly. It was even more important to him now that (Y/n) stayed, this evil waitress had been poisoning her thoughts.

"What has that dyke done to you?" He spat.

"Don't call her that." (Y/n) said forcefully. "I don't know what this is about but you need to-"

"No, angel. You don't tell me what to do." Harlow silenced her, he took several steps closer to (Y/n) and in turn she took the same amount back. "You don't even know what's best for yourself, let alone me. Let me handle all of the hard stuff like decisions, and working, and talking to other people, and thinking."

(Y/n) kept distancing herself from Harlow's intimidating form until her back hit the wall. "Shit." She uttered.

"Nowhere left to go now, my love." Harlow cooed. "Now why don't you give that bitch a call and dump her sorry ass."

(Y/n) couldn't bring herself to say anything, just staring at him in shock. She thought he was getting better but no, he was so, so much worse than he'd ever been.

"I can see you've already decided to stop thinking." He smiled in response to her silence. "That's alright, I'm sure she'll get the message if you just stay far far away from her. Maybe if you just stayed right here with me... forever~"

He lifted up a piece of (Y/n)'s hair and fiddled with it between his fingers. (Y/n) let go, she couldn't hold herself together anymore, violent tears rattled through her.

Upon noticing her sobs, Harlow proceeded to hush at (Y/n) in an infantilising manner, stroking at her head and pulling her into an embrace in the process.

She turned her head to the side to avoid the darkness that would come from having her face being pushed directly into his chest. After a few minutes, her tears had washed away slightly and the world became more clear. Harlow kept comforting her, content to finally have her in his arms, so he didn't realise when she had stopped wailing.

(Y/n) eyed the patch of apartment she could see, looking for a way out.... 'Bingo.' She thought as she spotted a key on his mantelpiece.

She pondered how she could get to it, she could wait it out and stay in the apartment until he inevitably needed to leave her side. But there was the impending thought that the longer she waited, the greater her captivity would become. The best chance she had of escape was making a clean break for it.

His grip was significantly looser than it had been at the beginning of the hug, loose enough that if she took him by surprise, she'd be able to slip out of his arms quite easily.

She stayed very still, counting down seconds in her head but trying to show few physical signs of her preparations for her getaway.

In an instant, Harlow felt (Y/n) disappear from his arms. She was across the room in a dash, shoving his key into the lock and twisting it purposefully.

It took him until (Y/n) had left the apartment to fully realise what had happened. "Fuck.... fuck.... oh, fuck." He said aloud, running after her.

As (Y/n) sprinted down the hallway, she thought of how just earlier she was running to him. Oh, how things had changed. As she approached the stairwell, she could hear Harlow growing closer and closer. To (Y/n)'s relief, there was a woman waiting for the elevator so it wasn't as if Harlow could throw (Y/n) over his shoulder and carry her back, at least not yet.
