"I need you to do this for me." Victor pleaded.
It was later that Sunday and Victor was standing in the chop shop where Harlow was working.
"I don't know how I feel about lying to (Y/n)..." Harlow trailed off. "I also don't really like you."
"You wouldn't be lying. You just need to go down to your old foster care centre and get her file, then we can meet her and go from there. We said we'd do it anyway so may as well do it now." Victor tried to convince his twin further.
"You're manipulating her! It's not cool." Harlow scolded, grabbing a tool box and stalking over to the car he was working on.
Victor followed behind him. "Look, how much do you want. Any amount of money you want, I'll give it to you. All you need to do is come meet this damn woman with me... and don't tell (Y/n) that I lied- I mean... stretched the truth."
Harlow's ears caught onto his talk about money. (Y/n) was good and all but money was on a different level. "Any amount?"
"Well, not any-'
"Ten grand?"
"Not exactly aspirational..."
"I can ask for more."
"Ten grand is fine!"
Victor was glad he was dealing with someone who didn't have a lot of money, his demand was far lower than expected. He pulled out his chequebook and wrote out the amount.
"Follow up question:" Victor said as he handed the cheque over, keeping hold of it when Harlow grabbed it. "Are you romantically interested in (Y/n)?"
Harlow gulped at the question. Was he?
"I'm not not romantically interested... I don't know!" Harlow did his best to articulate his feelings.
Victor let go of the cheque, not really sure of how he felt about Harlow's answer. Harlow wasn't nearly driven enough to be any real competition to him, but it was the mere thought of another man viewing (Y/n) the way he saw her that unsettled him.
"I guess I'll see you at mom's place then."
Harlow watched as Victor walked away, clinging to the cheque tightly.
(Y/n) drove across the town, glancing at Harlow in the mirror every now and then. She was driving the two of them to their mother's address which Harlow had obtained.
"We're almost there, are you two both sure that you're ready?" Both the men looked slightly on edge. Victor had brought dozens upon dozens of legal documents, they mostly consisted of contracts he'd written up himself that would subject her to silence about any relation. Harlow was mostly just afraid, he didn't want to be there and only was because Victor had paid him.
"Yeah, I just need to get her to sign some stuff." Victor sorted through the files he was carrying.
"Are you going to talk her about what happened... why she gave you up, what her pregnancy was like, about her life, stuff like that?" (Y/n) tried to bring out a bit more compassion.
Victor quickly realised that she thought he was acting coldly and went to rectify it. "Of course, of course."
"Harlow, what about you?"
"I guess. I wanna who my dad is." He said with a shrug.
"Well, you can ask her now." (Y/n) said as she parked in front of a smallish house. "I'll wait in the car for you guys."
