"Victor, what did you do?" Penelope asked anxiously.

"We were just talking." He shrugged.

"She looked pretty scared... Oh, were you talking about Harlow?" Penelope realised why (Y/n) may have been scared.

Victor clung to this excuse. "Yep, what did he say to you?"

"He's completely mental, like, he's in love with (Y/n) and-"

"I'm sorry, he's what?!" Victor knew that Harlow liked (Y/n), but he wouldn't pin those feelings as love.

"He's in love with her! I was shocked too! He was saying shit like how they're gonna get married, he's so delusional." Penelope lamented. "Where's mother and father?" She noted their absence.

"Vacation."

"Father had another affair?"

"Yeah."

"Figures."

Penelope then left to her bedroom, leaving Victor to grind his teeth thinking about what to do about (Y/n) and his newest problem: Harlow.

"Sorry, I couldn't see you today. Victor said I didn't need to come in." Yvonne held the door open for (Y/n).

"I need to speak to you." (Y/n) stated. "I don't want you to be in the dark about this." She said her final statement in a hushed tone as if someone were listening in.

Yvonne nodded and listened as (Y/n) told her everything that had happened between her, Harlow and Victor.

"Oh my god..." Yvonne muttered. "Do you want to stay here?"

"That would be nice. I left my phone at the Fenton's because I know Victor can track it. I'm just hoping he doesn't remember where you live." (Y/n) put her hand gently on Yvonne's cheek. "I don't want you to get hurt."

"Don't worry about me. We can do this."

Amelia's groans beckoned Yvonne back to tend to her mother. (Y/n) stepped out to the balcony, needing to feel some fresh air.

A main distinction between the two sides of town, she had deciphered, was that the rough side never slept. If anything it was more awake at night than during the day, whereas her side was quiet in the dark and lively in the light.

People bustled beneath her, groups going off to clubs, coming home from bars, finishing off night shifts.

"How the hell did I get here?" She murmured to herself.

(Y/n) had been living with Yvonne and Amelia for four days now. She knew she couldn't hide in the apartment forever, luckily Yvonne was still getting paid but her paycheque could only cover all three of them for so long.

(Y/n) wanted to find a way to help but was too afraid to step her foot into the hallway. She thought on how her own apartment must be gathering dust by now.

"What do you think?" She asked Amelia quietly.

Yvonne was cooking lunch for the three of them as (Y/n) watched over Amelia to make sure everything was normal, if anything did go wrong then it would Yvonne who would rush in and fix it but Yvonne gave (Y/n) small jobs around the apartment to stop her from feeling completely useless.

A knock rattled the door.

"(Y/n), would you get that?" Yvonne called from the kitchen.

(Y/n) was hesitant but got up and walked over anyway, if it were Victor and Harlow she could just scream to attract attention from Yvonne and her neighbors.

She opened the door to see Penelope. She had large round sunglasses covering her eyes.

"P, what are you doing here? How did you know I was here?"

Penelope brushed off the latter question. "I haven't heard anything from you since Monday."

"How did you know I was here?" (Y/n) repeated.

"Unimportant. I was just checking you were still going to the engagement party, it's on Saturday and today's Thursday." Penelope said.

"I hate to say it but... I'm not sure."

"Please come." Desperation leaked into Penelope's voice. "You're my best friend and I'm really scared about his whole marriage thing. I need you there with me."

(Y/n) found it hard to deny Penelope but knew she had to preserve herself. "I'm sorry, things are just so complicated with Victor."

"Please don't let your drama get in the way of this!" Penelope begged. "Yvonne's going to be there, you don't even need to talk to him."

(Y/n) bit down on her lip in contemplation. "...fine."

Penelope brightened up significantly. "Oh great, I'll see you there then. I'll be the one in pink!"

(Y/n) shut the door slowly, regretting her answer already.

Penelope walked a few steps down the hallway to see Victor.

"I said what you wanted me to." She said quietly, taking off her sunglasses, revealing the purple mark and graze that sat beneath her left eye.

"Good. So, she's coming?"

Penelope's lips trembled as she nodded.

Victor rolled his eyes. "Fucking hell, don't start crying again."

She tried her hardest to hold back her tears. She couldn't help how much it hurt to blink with her black eye, and then searing pain in her heart that came with the way Victor was treating her.

"Are you going to hurt (Y/n)?"

"No... don't be stupid, I'm going to take excellent care of her." Victor glared down at his sister. "Put them back on before someone sees, let's go."

She forced the sunglasses back over her eyes and trudged behind Victor as they left the building.
