Just as I was finishing up I heard screaming. Yelling encompassed me. The distress only came from the other side of the window but it had begun to spread like wildfire throughout the house. I pressed my palms onto the counter nearest the window to find where the racket was origination from, pushing myself up, and saw wolves running onto the pack grounds. Judging by their filthy coats, even the sound of their snarls, they were rogues. No doubt about it
A part of me felt a misplaced joy; several parts of me actually. Call me sadistic but I was happy. Now the pack would see once and for all I was an omega, not a filthy rogue. But even more prominent than that thought another captivated my mind. Finally some action. My wolf could use the opportunity to stretch her legs.
I didn't even try to get the last plate on the pile even after spending the time to dry it. I just let it fall along with the towel which floated like a lead balloon to the floor. A smash could be heard amongst the commotion but only by me I presume. When I opened the door that lead from the kitchen into the grand hallway I was met with dozens of women running past. Each falling over their own feet and shouting on their loved ones. Obviously every male of the pack was going to fight and every female was to hide in their bedroom where the big scary rogues would hurt them.
A kid was wandering past muttering something over and over again but being too afraid to yell. The lost look on her face paired with the small droplets of tears streaming down her face forced me to pause, against my better judgement. With a groan I nudged them on the shoulder. The small girl's eyes met mine and she sniffed. She let out a hard sob and her doll dropped to the floor "Go upstairs alright. If you can't find you mom my rooms at the end of the hall on the third floor." I crouched down directly in front of her. Wrapping my fingers around her doll I gave her a reassuring nod. I held it to her chest until her short arm clutched it to her. "I promise you will be safe there. I'll come check on you as soon as I can and then we can find your mom."
The child gave me a nod and with a pat on the shoulder I ran off. As much is I could have helped her find my room or her mom I had my own priorities which in this case was a battle. I chose the tree closest to me that was an adequate distance from the fighting. I'm not going to make it sound better than it was because there really is no way to. I stripped down so not to tear my clothes to shreds when I shifted. I would need something to wear when the fighting ended.
As I leapt down from the tree I initiated my wolf. Instead of hands or feet my paws pounded against the grass as I took off towards the fighting, the cool air whipping through my fur. The only thing I had to go on was the dirt covering their coats. It was the only possible way for me to separate the pack from the rogue intruders. I had to act quickly before it became near impossible to tell whose side I was fighting for. Everyone else had the unfair advantage of knowing who pack was and who wasn't. Smell wouldn't have worked any more. Blood. The scent bombarded by senses but it wasn't capable of tainting my fighting.
One wolf ran at me. My first rogue. I pounced up and tackled the wolf to the ground. We went tumbling and the bigger wolf I had thrown myself at landed on top. It was about to snap at me but before the rogue hand a chance I had clamped my jaw around his neck. What can I say, I had pretty sharp reflexes. The pain was enough of a distraction to knock the wolf from on top of me and he landed next to me. With several slashes and a few well positioned snaps I was finished with the wolf.
He wasn't dead. I left him severely injured but not dead. Just to clarify; I am not a murderer. I am willing to injure another wolf, a lot, but I won't kill them. I know that by the time were finished the wolf won't have bled out or healed. It's safe to say that although I will have blood on my paws I won't have death on my conscience, even though it's not all that bad if I did kill them. They do kind of deserve it.
