Hunter led me to the containment cells. The ones on the furthest end of the hall held who was a bigger threat. We passed my room where i was when Hunter told me that we were mates. There was little urgency in his steps which surprised me as an alpha but he still took them and made his way to the third door from the end. Not to sound bratty, again, but id rather be eating than going to meet some random ass guy in the cells. Just saying.

Luke was standing at the door with a worried look on his face. When he truly felt something it was impossible for Luke to hide it, even remotely. He was worried about something, I just didn't have a damn clue what. He slid the bolts and turned the locks that held the door closed and slowly dragged it open. These rooms were set up different from the low security lockups where i got left. They weren't given as many 'luxuries' for lack of a better word. There was a bed but it didn't get slept in often, most of those bad enough to get there ass hauled in were too risky to let walk around, even in a confined space. There were ties on the wall, I guess you could call them shackles. They were made of iron, i think, and thick to stop anyone dangerous breaking out.  I didn't care about the interior bloody decorating although the place could use a serious makeover. My attention was held by the wolf in front of me. His once high spirit broken. His sandy blond hair was a mess and his eyes failed to connect with mine but  i could tell he knew i was there and that it was me. It was the second time id seen him like this. Cameron was broken and it was crushing me. My eyes watered as i sucked in the hardest breath i had yet to take.

"Let him out." I ordered, my voice failing to be as strong as i needed it to be. No one moved. Hunter just stayed in front of me being overly protective. "Undo the fucking shackles." I screamed. I dont know what got me. If it was my friend being tied up or knowing that i was responsible for robbing him of his freedom that he once had in bulk. It was like a blow to the chest. Being free was the one thing that felt right; I wasn't taking orders or being a burden to the people i loved. I was happy and Cameron was happy and that was life. That was my life and i was finally living it how i wanted. Now I'm what ruined it for him. Again. I ruin everything.

Hunter gave a nod and Luke threw him the keys before leaving. I heard the locks click and the bolts slide back into place. Hunter gave Cameron a warning about how he could over power him before undoing his cuffs. Cams arms dropped to his sides and he rolled his shoulders. It didn't look very comfortable being in suspended cuffs for hours. There was little length by the looks of it which gave it too settings- Fuck i can barely breathe and fuck my shoulders are cramping. Either way, fuck it looked sore.Cameron groaned several times and rubbed his wrists but he never looked at the damage the cuffs had done. He never looked at me. He seemed to like the view of the floor.

"Aren't you going to look at me?" I asked taking a step to stand in front of Hunter. I knew Cameron didn't appreciate Hunters presence the same as he didn't want mine. Cameron only pushed me away once in the past. In the past he pushed me away because he was ashamed of himself, now he was disappointed in me. Grudgingly he raised his eyes. His entire face was void of any emotion. I couldn't tell if he felt sorry for me, if this was some kind of escape plan that no one had filled me in on, if he hated me, I'm not picky, i just want to know that he can feel something- that he hasn't drained himself of everything that make him who he is. Its what makes rogues so cruel and heartless. They lack humanity. He didn't even speak, if you ask me id say he wasn't even looking at me. Id say he stared right through me as though i was made of air.

"You wanted her here."Hunter reminded him. "Now," I could hear the power radiating off his voice as he spoke to Cameron, "tell me your purpose?"

"My purpose?" Cameron snarled. His voice was low but it was impossible to ignore the hate. In that small fraction of a second something snapped- or maybe clicked. Maybe his emotions returned but there was definitely no care for anyone around him. "My purpose was to see for myself."His killer glare flashed to me. I thought i was going to drop dead then and there.

"I never..."There was something about his gaze that stopped me from being able to finish my defence. Something told me Cameron was beyond all reasoning.

"After everything i did." He kept it vague so Hunter didn't have a slither of opportunity where he could understand the turn our conversation had taken. Whether it was for my good or his own he kept his words cryptic so only i could identify the meaning. I wish i couldn't. Those were dark times, darker than the god damn night sky. Recalling them reminded me of the pain, the struggle i faced, and the hell Cameron suffered.

"I'm sorry."

"I died that day!" He roared. Hunter pushed me behind him, for my 'protection'. I was almost positive that Cameron wouldn't hurt me but he'd never yelled at me like that before. Don't get the wrong idea, I can handle being yelled at, I'm not a child, but there's some people you don't expect to yell at you and i never expected it from Cam.

"I know! I've apologized a million times! Want to hear it again? I'm sorry." I yelled as i pushed past Hunter. I didn't need his protection from Cam of all people. There was no way the past two years meant nothing to him. we were friends even if it was past tense. "I cant change the past but its not my fault. You sent me in, you went your way and i went mine. You chose to show up. You chose to get me out."

"That's not what this is. I've wasted enough time on you." For Hunter it may have sounded like wed moved on from yelling about the past and instead started talking about now. Like i thought suddenly Cameron was going to knock Hunter to the floor, break down the door and rescue me like the damsel in distress everyone thinks i am.

"Fine. See if i give a shit anymore." Hunter took that as his cue and pushed Cameron back to the restraints. Cameron's protests seemed like throwing sand at bulletproof glass. Hunter chained him back in and banged his fist against the door a few times. Luke unlocked the door and let us out. I didn't look back even though i could feel Cameron staring his hate into the back of my head. If i turned around then i was weak and i was not weak. No matter what happened, no matter who was there, just no. I wasn't weak.

Luke didn't say anything. He hadn't heard anything. As i mentioned these rooms were different. The doors were thicker for another thing. Luke wouldn't have heard a thing, not even Cameron's shouting or my screaming. Hunter took a hold of me the the elbows. He had a soft touch which wasn't all that dreadful when one of the few friends i thought i was stuck with for the long haul thinks i would betray him. Luke stayed aside. Despite being the position directly below Hunter he seemed to have an overly strong grasp of where he stood.

"Are you okay after that?" Hunter asked giving my elbows a gentle squeeze. Why did he have to

"I want you to let him go." I told him. The look of shock on his face was spectacular. His jaw dropping, the confusion in his eyes, too bad i was more serious than he usually was and that's saying something. I wanted Cameron out. Id realized there was no way Id be getting out of this place under Hunters orders. "You don't get something for nothing. I owe him. I'm sick of being in debt." I told him, filling in the gaps. And they let him run a pack. Unbelievable.

"I can't."

"What?"

"You're my mate but i cant do something like that. His arrest is common knowledge, so is your disciplinary. If you want me to let him go then we need to be common knowledge too."

I swear, my heart stopped.
