"Uff!" A grunt escaped my mouth and I was slammed into the dirt ground. My eyes were squinted shut until I dared to peek open one of them. Above me stood a huge, slobbery mess of a lizard. Also known as my dragon, Caesar. He hovered there with his tongue lolling out like an idiot. I attempted to wiggle my arms free, but his huge paws held me down pretty well. He proceeded to lick all over my face, making me feel disgusting.

"Agh! Your breath smells gross!" I turned my head away from his face. He whimpered and plopped down onto my stomach. "Oof! Get off, you heavy lump!" Now that his paws were tucked into his chest, my arms were free to hit the monster. I started whacking at his head gently, but with enough force to let him know I wanted out. He sat up then backed away, and let out a groan. I stood and patted the dust from my shirt. "Thanks for nothing, you big doof."

"Wren!" Audrey leapt over to me and grabbed my shoulders with force. I jumped slightly and turned around.

"What, Audrey?" I quickly undid my braid and let my black hair flop onto my back. She began talking while I redid it.

"We should go flying today." She grinned and folded her hands behind her back, trying to look cute. I rested my hand on my hip and Caesar rested his huge head on my shoulder. He let out a begging purr and looked at me with his huge blue eyes. "Aww, hi Caes!" Audrey bound over and began petting the Night Fury.

"I wish I could have a dragon like him." She kissed his nose.

"Well, you're still young. I mean- I am too, I guess. But these dragons are crazy fast... You should start out with something like a Gronckle." I leaned on Caesar and looked over to Audrey.

"Yeah, I guess you're right. But... Could we go out? I'm sure two can fit on his back." She let out an innocent giggle.

"Eh, why not? In a bit, though. I have to replace his saddle. It's very worn now..." I slowly started backing up to my house, but still faced her.

"Alright. Seeya in a bit, I guess." She waved and headed off. I then spun around and jogged into the storage area in my house. I saw my mom standing there, fixing up some weapons.

"Mom? What are you doing?" She paused to look up at me.

"Oh, Wren! I'm just cleaning these tools." Her thick accent bounced off my ears.

"What are you going to use them for?" I hopped onto the crafting bench and kicked my legs freely.

"Your father 'n' I are gonna be headin' out for some huntin', some friends may tag along." She returned to polishing and sharpening an axe.

"Alright then. I'm gonna take Caesar for a ride." I hopped from the table and heaved his saddle into both of my arms.

"Be safe, dear." She bid me off, and I headed over to the blacksmith's shop.

Caesar padded up next to me and nudged my side with his muzzle.

"Not now, Caes. I'm getting you a new saddle, wait here." I gently tapped his side with my foot and continued walking. Caesar headed over to the house to rest in the sun. I turned to the side to look at the Blacksmith shop, since the huge saddle was blocking most of my vision.

I saw Gobber standing in a window, handing some parts to another villager. I quickly ran up and threw the saddle onto the sill.

"Gobber! I need a new saddle." I caught his attention and he turned around. He wobbled up to the window to look at the old thing. I could hear his metal leg clink on the hard flooring. He stopped and ran his hand along the leather.

"Are ya lookin' to fix this one, or get a completely new one?" Gobber tapped the wood with his hook.

"I'd like a new one, this one would take too long to fix up."

"Well, I guess you're right..." He lifted it and carried it away, though I'm not sure where he put it. Gobber then walked to a different section of the shop and picked up a beautiful black saddle, and carried it over to me.

"How this one?" He patted the seat with his hand and looked up at me.

"Beautiful... I love it." I smiled and lifted it into both arms.

"Glad ya like it- have a nice day, Wren!" He waved me off with his metal hand, and I returned the farewell with a nod. This new saddle felt much heavier, but sturdier. I just needed to make sure that it would fit Caesar first.

"Hey, Caesar, c'mere." I grunted and dropped the saddle onto the ground. He lifted his head from the ground and looked at me. "Get up, I got you a new saddle. We're gonna go flying with Audrey soon." The lizard purred and wobbled over to me. His wings jittered slightly as he lowered them. I then flung the saddle over onto his back and tightened each strap around his huge body. After finishing, I patted his muscular neck and started walking to Audrey's house, with Caesar following behind.

"Audrey!" I pounded on the door. She immediately flung open the door and looked at me.

"Are we going now?!" She scooted past me to hug Caesar again.

"Yeah, let's go." I hopped on and straddled the dragon's back, and Audrey climbed on behind me. "Alright Caesar, up. Hold on to something, Audrey." I uttered a quiet chuckle and Caesar lifted from the ground with a graceful push of his wings. I felt Audrey's grip get tighter around my waist, and she leaned her head against my back.

"This is awesome!" She yelled through the thin air as the dragon pushed upward into the clouds.

"C'mon boy!" I called out to him. I could hear his panting while he worked at his wings. He eventually balanced out in the air, with his wings steadily holding a soar.

"It's kinda cold, I just noticed that." Audrey laughed and leaned back.

"Yeah.. You never really feel the cold when you're up here, you just feel free." I nodded. "No tricks, boy." I leaned to Caesar's ear and whispered, making sure he wouldn't frighten the girl.

---

"Thanks for taking me flying, Wren." She grinned, looking a bit worn. Her hair was pushed back completely.

"No problem." I waved her goodbye and pulled Caesar away by the saddle. "Caesar, you need to get to bed, you big baby." I patted his neck, and he paced into his room. "Goodnight." I called and left to my room.

(Yeah this took way longer than I was hoping. Sorry about that.. I just don't really like how I wrote it. xD But no matter how many times I rewrite it, I never like it, so oh well.)
