"Who's your new friend?" My Dad asks casually while reading the newspaper.
"What new friend?" I answer with a question. My dad looks up from his newspaper.
"You honestly think I've not noticed that you've been spending more time on your phone texting lately?" He asks.
"No, I've been reading on-"
"Rosie." My dad cuts me off. "I may be old, but I know the difference between scrolling, reading and texting." He chuckles.
"And I know you've been texting more lately. So, who's your new friend?"
"A guy I met on Wattpad." I answer honestly. "You're not mad?" I ask.
"Rosie, why would I be mad?" He says gently. "I'm happy for you, it's not good for a girl your age to not have any friends. I know you've been hurt in the past, but it's wonderful to see you move past that. I'm not mad, if anything I'm proud of you." He says.
"Thanks Dad." I mutter in response.
"Besides, I've been meaning to tell you something." He says sheepishly. "I've been seeing someone. It's not offical yet, but I want it to be are you okay with that?"
"Of course Dad." I exclaim. "when can I meet her?" I ask excitedly.
"In a couple of weeks, I kind of haven't told her I have a daughter yet." He explains.
"What?" I fake being offended. "You haven't bragged about all of my amazing talents." I gasp.
"Like the amazing talent of being late for the school bus?" My dad retaliates glancing at the clock.
"Shoot. See ya dad." I say running out the door after grabbing my school bag of the dining table.
"You look happy today." Bus boy points out when he sits down next to me.
I scowl at him.
"Am I not allowed to be happy?" I ask.
"Of course you're allowed to be happy." Bus boy says with a smile. "You just haven't been happy since we met."
