Zach's POV
"crying won't solve this one dad" I said to him as he stood at my office door. He came here personally to deliver the news that my mom had been crying since I won't pick up her calls.
I don't want her to think that she can just treat people I care about and get away with it.
My father sighed "technically she didn't even say anything" I lifted my head from the position it was in.
"she didn't have to say anything"
Karly texted me or rather lectured me this morning about it all, Karly knew that my mom can be a handful and she didn't like how I haven't comforted Gen yet, but I'll be going to see gen as soon as I leave here.
"look can you just talk to her" he pinched the bridge of his nose.
"I'll talk to her but not after I talk to gen first" I said simply.
I watched dad leave my office, probably going to buy mom something to cheer her up. I don't understand why she's the one that's upset if only she could have manners around gen.
She was always like this around girls, the only girl she ever liked was my only long relationship. If you can even call it that. Dani was the only girl my mom liked they got on well.
When we broke up my mom didn't speak to me for two days.
My mom's a real treat.
After a few more hours working I left the office around 6. Gen wasn't working tonight so I assumed she was available. I made the effort of going out and buying chocolate, this should level the playing field.
I didn't even bother heading home first maybe I'm using my good looks and the fact I'm in a suit to my advantage.
After knocking, the door swung open to reveal Gen. She was in a hoodie and leggings. Her hair down in long waves and she looked tired.
"thought it might be you" she said letting out a small yawn as she opened the door a bit more.
I stepped inside, instantly I could smell some strong aroma a lot like a candle scent. I was proved right when I saw a big red candle burning in the lounge.
"come to spend time with us commoners did you" I heard the distinct voice of Karly. She sat lounging on the sofa with her phone in her lap.
I glared at gen who just smiled weakly at me. In her defence I did come by unannounced, but I didn't expect Karly to still be here.
"I really am sorry about my mother you know" I said tugging Gen to me. She lifted her head and placed a kiss on my lips.
From that simple gesture, I could finally breath again.
"We can't all be perfect; I just hope you're not a complete mommy's boy" she said leaning into my chest. I wrapped my arms around her.
I think Karly took this as her cue, she grabbed her bag and past us. "say no more love birds" she said as she headed for the door.
"actually" Karly peeked her head back in. "A word" she pointed at me.
I groaned.
"don't worry i'll return him fully intact" Karly reassured Gen. I didn't feel safe with those words. I've known this girl for years I know what she's capable of.
Karly dragged me out to the hall.
"Did you really wait a full day before coming to check on her. I don't mind being the supportive friend but seriously Zach" she ranted pissed off at me.
