You had always been special. Different. The loner and the outcast. Being the weird, quiet, orphaned goth girl had its perks though. You were brutally honest. You didn't have to be fake around your friends because you didn't have any. The barbie bitch Lexi bumped into you, "Watch were you're going freak!" She shrieked as she shoved you away. Unfortunately you tripped and landed in the trash can. "Oh look! You found your throne!" She laughed, her giggling gaggle of friends joining her side as she did. You rolled your eyes and stood up, cursing under your breath as she threw a gum wrapped at your face. "Add this to your collection and go cry about!" She called as she strutted away. You rolled my eyes and plopped the headphone back in your ear. Someone grabbed your arm, making you jump and rip your head phones out. "Y/n, I'm didn't mean to scare you. Are you okay?" Your best friend slash crush Chris asked. "I'll be fine I guess." You said as he started walking with you to class.

The small black leather book appeared on your doorstep one day after school. It had been a blessing in disguise honestly. You had a small apartment above your elder neighbor's living room, she let you live there for free as long as you did the dishes and vacuumed on occasion. It was great. But tonight was special, being tossed aside like garbage really wore a girl down. Tonight was about revenge. You poured the salt in a perfect circle around you, sitting Indian fashion as you lit the red candle. You took a deep breath and cleared your mind, picturing Lexi in your mind with the utmost focus. You opened your eyes and gazed down at the book, flipping to the page you wanted. Instant Karma Spell. "Let cruelty, pain, and evil ways follow this villain. Through all her ways reverse the torment she creates. Turn on her a crueler face." You read aloud, keeping the image of Lexi in your mind as the candle burned out. You smiled as the last bit of smoke flitted up and disappeared into the nights air. We'll see how this works...

The spell was amazing. Every time Lexi even attempted to bully you to flipped on her. You flipped through the book, curious to see what other spells might help. "Whatcha got there?" Chris asked, sitting next to you. "Nothing!" You exclaimed, slamming it shut and sliding it back into your bag. He grinned and reached around you to try and grab it, unknowingly leaning extremely close into your personal space. He smelled amazing, and it took all your strength not to brush a lock of midnight hair out of his auburn eyes. "Oh look! Two freaks sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G!" Lexi's boyfriend TJ laughed, throwing a bottle of water on you, soaking your clothes. "Mr. Bell!" The assistant principal yelled from across the court yard. "My office! Now!"

You stopped and hid behind the row of lockers. "What about y/n?" Your friend Justin asked Chris. His green hair peaked out above the lockers due to his extreme height. "What about her? I can't take her." Chris replied, grabbing his bag from the locker. You ripped you book from your bag and turned to the spell you needed. The gift of thought spell. "As flame lights shadow and truth ends fear, open locked thoughts to my minds willing ear. Bring innermost voices to my mind in speech." You read aloud, shoving your book back into hiding. You suddenly got a splitting headache, dropping to your knees and trying not to scream. "She's just a friend man." But she's so beautiful and she'll never have feelings for me. Chris's voice whispered, but his lips didn't move. "So take her as your friend." "She wouldn't go with me." I don't deserve her. The pain ebbed and you decided to make your entrance. "Hey guys. What's up?" "What's up y/n." Justin replied, giving you a quick hug. "Nothing much I guess." She's so beautiful. "Great! Alright I gotta go. Shae is waiting for me." Justin said as he started backing away, eyeing Chris.  "Bye!" You waved, finally turning to face him. "Hi Chris." He smiled down at you, "Hey y/n." He draped his arm across your shoulders, walking you to your car. I wish... you smiled to yourself. This spell was amazing. I bet she tastes amazing. You flushed and tried your best to hide it. You should learn not to play with magic until you understand it little one. You heard, making you stop in your tracks. He was grinning at you. "First. Never cast a spell, especially a mind reading spell, in public. Second, be sure the person your casting on deserves it. Third, always be sure that your target is human. Unless its specifically designed for supernatural beings." He said, pushing you against your car. You gulped harshly, trying to avoid his strong eye contact. You felt like it was burning a hole through you. You felt the mental link snap like a rubber band. "Look at me y/n. I would never hurt you, but other creatures might." He purred, his velvet voice dropped to a low growl. The sheer dominance in his tone both terrified and thrilled you. You looked up to see his eyes were black with burning crimson irises. You gasped and pulled away slightly. "W-what a-ar-" "I'm a damphire y/n." You raised an eyebrow at him. He smiled, showing small fangs. "A damphire. A demon vampire hybrid." You nodded slowly, still trying to comprehend. "I left the book on your doorstep. I wanted you to be able to protect yourself. You fascinate me y/n. I could never hurt you." He cooed, shifting his eyes back to their natural sunburn color. "Teach me." You demanded. "Please. I want to know." He smiled, "You have to make a deal with me y/n. Nothing serious." You eagerly nodded, "Anything. Please." He reached up and pushed a lock of y/hc out of your face. "I will teach you magic and how to master the black book on the condition that you go to the Hallows Eve dance with me." You grinned at him, "Deal." "We have to seal it with a kiss." He said, leaning closer. You stood up on your toes and kissed him. You wrapped your right hand in his shirt collar and wrapped your left arm around his neck. He dropped his hands to your hips and gripped them like a vice.

You both felt the subliminal shift in the air. You were now bonded by the powers at be.
