Once upon a time, there was a queen married to a beastly king. Their union was cursed by the evil deeds of the king, the blood and cries of the innocent waged wars against their marriage.
They did not live happy. The queen was a sad and lonely woman who sought love and feelings her husband could never give. Day after day, she wept and cried to her gods for a child. Day after day, her prayers went unanswered. For the king had an heir already, he was not bothered by his wife's childlessness.
The queen sought desperate measures and became obsessed with her quest for a child and one day, a powerful magician from an unknown kingdom visited the king. Both men delighted in wicked things, the strange man stayed for a fortnight and for every hour, the queen tended to his needs and listened to his woes.
The magician and the queen became fond of each other.
The day the magician was to leave, he granted the queen a powerful wish. For the queen was not wise, she could not see the trickery, she wished for a child.
Many months after, she had a daughter.
But there was a price.
