Chapter 9, Harvey's point of view

I sat down at the lunch table and watched heather leaning all over Travis. Last week it was me, and if Lila hadn't got here I might still be wanting her. Now I can what was actually happened then. It's disgusting and I'm actually kind of happy to be rid of her.

She saw me watching them and winked at me. I almost puked, really now I see the differences between her a slut. I can see the real girls, like Maryann from Third Period even Lila. Even though she's come from a rough life she's still as real as anyone. I looked at her and smiled, she smiled back.

I went back to my lunch and noticed that Lila was talking to Ashton. I felt a pang of jealousy from some reason, it was probably because I was the one who saved her and she couldn't trust me with something. I shook my head, what's happening to me? I'm not someone who cares about stuff like that. I looked back at them and noticed Ashton laughing. Now I wanted to know what she said.

I nudged my brother and he told me to wait a minute. So I punched him and he practically screamed "What?"

"God, sorry to bother you but what are you talking about with Lila," he smirked.

"Your really nosy, I don't think you should know," I glared at him and he shrugged it off. The bell rang and we all jumped up. Thinking this was a normal day I forgot all about Lila and rushed out of the lunch room.

I was walking down the halls and noticed the girls smiles, not glares in anyway. I looked around and noticed someone missing, holy crap Lila. I ran frantically back to the lunch room but found it empty. I left and started to walk back towards class when I noticed Darien and Lila walking towards class. But I had no time to go follow them because I had to get to my own class.

I ran into the class almost being late but not. As I ran to take a seat Ms. Alindal gave me a glare. Out of all my teachers she hates me the most and I didn't even do anything! Time for boring old class.

The rest of the school day went by slow. I was actually walking in slow motion to my car. At least I think I was. I waited for the guys to get out, and then Lila to get out too. Ashton had soccer practice after school so I was driving her home.

I watched as everyone left. I swear everyone left before Lila came running out of the school. She looked like she was going to breakdown in tears. She ran across the school yard at such a fast speed I barely had time to get out of my car before she ran into me.

I grabbed her and held her close to my body. She's now crying and I have no idea why.

"I can't believe it. It's all the same no matter where I am," she was sobbing now and my shirt was soaking wet.

"Shh, Shh. It's going to be ok Lila," I was stroking the back of her head and she was slowly starting to calm down. "What's the matter?" she had finally stopped crying. She looked me right in the eyes.

"That-that jerk, Mike he," she caught on her words but the tears started to flow again. My eyes grew wider.

"Are-are you ok?" she nodded yes but she was definitely not.

"Nothing as bad as what happened there," she spit the word "there" out like it was some dangerous venom. I hugged her close to me. Because my family I know exactly goes on in there. That old house in the woods, it's supposed to be abandoned. They gamble with girls and then when they finally take them back, or even kidnap, I can't even say what they do to them.

"Lets go home," I picked her up and placed her in the passenger seat. I then went around and got in my side of the car and drove out of the parking lot. Before we were safe I saw Mike running out of the school, a slap mark across his face. He deserves it.

As soon as we got to my house I ran to Lila's side of the car and picked her up in a bridal style. Closing both of our car doors I ran into the house carrying her up the stairs and into her room. I sat down on the bed still holding her in my arms.

We sat there in silence for forever and I was sure she went to sleep but then she squeezed my tighter before letting go and sitting down in front of me.

"Thanks, for comforting me," I felt really bad that I couldn't have done anything better.

"It was nothing. I'm just glad you're feeling better," she smiled and looked out the window into the woods. It must still haunt her.

"It reminded me of that place," she shuddered, I hated how "that place" did this to her and to all of us.

"It's ok," she nodded then looked back out the window.

"Hey can I tell you how it was in there, you know maybe saying it out loud would help," I know it won't but if she thinks it might I'll let her.

"Sure," she took a deep breath and then looked back at me.

"In that place, they take girls. When I was there, there was only five of us and we were in horrible condition. The ones who are left still are. But people don't know about it, well I guess people do but they don't know enough to help us. The beat you till your bruised and bloody. We are starved and that's on a good note. Sometimes they make you sleep on a old wood floor that the boards stick up and give you splinters. But the only other thing is they, they," she couldn't finish her sentence and I don't blame her. Yet again she was in tears and I was calming her.

I heard a door slam downstairs and heavy footsteps on the stairs. It couldn't be my mom so it has to be Ashton. I was right because when the door flung open there was a red faced Ashton who looked mad as ever. I noticed one of his knuckles were bloody and he had the beginning of a black eye. Lila jumped up and gasped at him.

"Are you ok?" she asked in a small voice.

"I'm not but you're safe now. I beat up that ass-hole who did that to you. To stoop so low as to forcibly make the NEW girl make-out with you!" she had tears in her eyes again.

"I'm sorry this is my fault," I ran back up to her and hugged her.

"No, it's not. We should have been there for you," I said while I was rubbing soothing circles on her back.

"Where the hell was Derek?" my brother has a tendency to swear when he mad.

"H-he-he wasn't doing anything. He just watched and laughed," this enrage my brother and I had to tackle him to the ground before he left to go beat up Derek.

"NO! This is not the answer!" I was yelling at Ashton.

"Yes! It is, now let me go," I heard more sobbing.

"I'm sorry this is all my fault!" Lila was now saying in a high voice.

"Kids what are you doing?" it was my mom standing in the doorway and looking pretty mad. Welcome to hell.
