A/N: The song is called "Like Real People Do" by Hozier

It was finally the night of Homecoming. The dance, to be specific. There technically had been a football game the day before, but seeing as they were pretty much all new, they didn't exactly have a sense of 'school pride' and didn't care much about football. Besides, they'd heard the team sucked so it wouldn't have been all too interesting.

They lost.

Anyway, dance. Tonight. Patton smoothed out his jacket for the sixty-nine thousand, four hundred and twentieth time since putting it on. He had a couple of minutes before he had to go to Logan's house. Very nervous, he began pacing back and forth in his bedroom.

He'd checked himself in the mirror a billion times to make sure there wasn't a hair out of place on his artfully tousled head, and to make sure his tie was tied correctly, and to make sure he didn't look as much of a mess as he felt. He was aware that technically, the hoco dance wasn't all that important or fancy or anything. But it was his first time going to a school dance with a date, so he was a little bit terrified.

Scratch that; a lot terrified.

Before he knew it, he realized he had to be out the door.

"Bye, Jack! Bye, Eli!" he called to his dads. "I'm going to go over to Lo's. He said his mom is driving us," Patton said through a wide grin and slid through the doorway.

-

Virgil and Roman had decided to meet at Virgil's house, so the emo boy was waiting in excitement. Normally, he'd be anxious as heck, but to be honest, he was hardly nervous at all. He was certain that he and Roman would have a great time. They'd never had a bad day together, anyway.

The doorbell rang. Virgil shot up and quickly answered it. "Ro!" he said cheerfully, giggling as he slung his arms around his boyfriend's neck.

"Hey, Virge! Wow, you look great," the princely boy grinned after looking the other up and down, and stole a quick kiss. "Your dad is driving, right?"

"Yeah. Oh, I should probably go grab him." Virgil patted Roman on the shoulder then turned on his heel and sprinted up the stairs. "Dad, Ro's here! We're ready to go."

"Just a sec!" he called back. One loud thud later, he was at the top of the stairs with his son. "Ready to go? Huh, you really cleaned up for this. Even redid your nails."

"Yep," Virgil smiled, showing off his glossy black fingernails. "Let's go."

-

Remy and Deceit arrived at the school together (naturally) and found the other two couples easily enough. Thankfully, the rest had warmed up to De after he'd apologized to Roman and Virgil and then explained how Vicky was a manipulative bitch.

Once they all got together, they went inside of the school, already feeling chilly from the crisp autumn air.

"Okay, So the actual dance is in the gym, but there's also—" Deceit started to explain, but was interrupted by Patton's sudden outburst.

"Food!" he jumped up and down cheerfully upon noticing the two fold-up tables with multiple trays of cookies, cupcakes, and brownies.

"Yeah," De smiled. Much to everyone else's initial surprise, he liked it when they were happy. "There are even a couple of good trucks outside, but I didn't bring any money, so—"

"Am I the only person who carries money around with me?" Logan asked, fishing a five-dollar bill out of his vest pocket. "You never know when you might need some."

"You never know when you might get robbed, either," Deceit replied sarcastically. The others laughed, and he cracked a small smile himself. "Well, if you want that, they're out the back doors. I'm gonna go dance."

"Oh, I'm coming too," Remy said immediately. Deceit tried to hide his blush as he smiled and pulled his crush to the dance floor in the gym.

-

"The food trucks outside sound like a fun idea! De said this place was a hellhole, but if they hired food trucks for the dance, how bad could it really be?" Patton asked. Logan just smiled and took his hand, taking him outside through the back door.

Roman and Virgil ended up deciding to go dance because they heard a slow song they both liked emanating from the gym.

Roman wrapped his hands around Virge's waist and pulled him close as they swayed back and forth to the beat. They had a couple of dorky smiles on their faces.

-

"So... Patton and Logan are getting food, I'm assuming," De started a little bit awkwardly. "And I don't know where Virgil and Roman are. So, d'you wanna dance? For the fun of it?" he asked nervously, trying not to come off too strong.

"Sure," Remy replied, equally nervous. "So, uh..." they laughed at how clueless they were when it came to where they should put their hands. Eventually they settled on De holding his waist and Remy's hands on his shoulders. They swayed back and forth stiffly, neither meeting the other's eyes for long, and stifling laughs when they finally did for a fraction of a second at a time.

I will not ask you where you came from,
I will not ask you and neither should you.

The song played over the speakers. They subconsciously pulled each other closer.

Darling just put your sweet lips on my lips,

Their eyes met and this time, they didn't look away.

We should just kiss like real people do.

Remy grabbed Deceit's tie and pulled him down to meet his his lips. He immediately kissed back. A couple of breathless seconds later, they pulled back. Both were beet red (and very thankful for the dark gym) and breathing heavily, their hearts pounding faster than they could've possibly imagined.

"Finally," Deceit laughed.

"You have no idea how long I've wanted to do that," Remy replied, giggling.

They heard a few cheers from around them and turned to see Patton, Logan, Virgil, and Roman grinning. They blushed harder, if possible, and laughed again.

"It took you guys so long to figure it out," Roman smirked.

"The tension was indeed horrible," Logan nodded in agreement. He held a small basket of fries with bacon bits and cheese sprinkled on top that Patton had picked out at the food truck. "This is a nice song," he observed.

"Your eyeliner is on point, by the way," Remy pointed out. "You've gotten pretty good at doing your makeup."

"Yes, I suppose so. Although I don't usually go so... extra," he said slowly, as though calculating optimal word choice. "I do rather enjoy the look from time to time."

"Ooh ook vamdashdic (You look fantastic)!" Patton mumbled cheerfully through a mouthful of fries.

"Thanks, Pat," he smiled.

"Oh gouwsh (of course)," he smiled. He swallowed his mouthful of fries, wiped his lips off a little, and gave Logan a peck on the cheek. "But you always look fantastic."

Roman hugged Virgil around his waist and cuddled the small emo boy close to him, making him giggle.

"Honestly, I'm pretty glad we all moved here. Call it plot convenience, but that was kind of a crazy coincidence, huh?" Roman laughed.

"I know. And what were the chances we'd all live in the same neighborhood?" Virgil grinned.

"I've never been one to believe in luck, but you do make good points," Logan agreed.

"Yeah! Everything happens for a reason. This is a bit much of you think about it, though," Patton added on.

"Heh. I moved twice. But yeah, I'm really happy now," Remy shrugged.

"Well, here's hoping the rest of the night goes this well," Deceit smirked. Everyone else laughed.

Spoilers: the night was great.
