Chapter 14

Three Days Later...

Eric Pov.

Peter was cut out of Dauntless into the factionless. Everyone was confused on why he got cut but I didn't tell anyone for Shai's sake. The only people that know about her and me is Four. I don't plan on telling Zeke until after initiation because he gossips like a school girl. Now for Max I'm not sure I guess he will just have to find out.

Today is day one of Stage Two, the Fear Landscapes. Since it's the first day I have to monitor the tests. The only thing good about this is that I will get to see Shai's but I have an idea of what one will be.

Four brings everyone to where they will sit and wait for their turn. I make short eye contact with Shai and she looks at me with fear in her eyes. It just makes me frown even more. I quickly snap out of my thoughts and focus on the group in front of me.

I clear my throat to get everyone's attention. "Today when you walk through those doors, you will be put in a simulation that only focuses on your fear. So basically you will really be facing your fears." I pause scanning the crowd of faces. "You will be timed at how long it will take you to face your fear or until you calm your heart rate to a normal speed. Any questions?" Nobody said a word so I just nod and call off the first person.

Shai Pov.

I wasn't scared I was terrified! I knew from back in Erudite about this simulation but I never looked to much into it. I know exactly what my first fear is going to be and Eric does too. At the moment its just me, Stacy, and Jarred. I have talk to Jarred before and he seems pretty nice for a Candor. Stacy still doesn't talk to me but when she looks at me her eyes are always filled with fear and sympathy. Hopefully we can talk throu-.

My thoughts are interrupted when the heavy door opens and Lucy walks out shaking. I just stare at her and she is avoiding everyone's eyes. "Shai." I hear Eric say and I stiffen. I slowly raise from my seat and make my way to the room. The room is all white with dim lights hanging from the ceiling. Also there's along chair in the middle and a computer with a chair in the left corner.

"Take a seat." Eric says closing the door behind him. I slowly lay in the seat, I look down to see my hands shaking. I close my eyes and take a deep breathe. Suddenly I feel warm hands on top of mine and I snap my eyes open. My eyes come contact with his blue eyes and I relax a little. "Shailene you can do this." He soothes me and I give him a small smile.

Then he walks over to the desk and picks up a syringe. He carries it over to me and I nod so he sticks the needle in my neck pushing the plunger down. When its full injected into me he slowly pulls it out of me and looks me in the eyes giving me a short kiss before darkness consumes me.

When I open my eyes I'm back in my Erudite bedroom tied to my bed. I just lay there for a while until I hear someone enter my room. I expect it to be Peter but it's Eric. He walks in and walks over to my bed. "Eric?" I say not believing what my eyes are showing me. He doesn't make eye contact with me but looks everywhere but my eyes.

"Eric!" I shout and finally his eyes snap over at me. His eyes are full of lust and anger? Then he grabs the knife and starts cutting my clothes. I start thrashing in the ropes but it doesn't work. "Eric what are you doing?!" I shout and he rolls his eyes. "Pleasuring myself." He states and a tear escapes from my eye.

"I thought you were my friend not my rapist!" I scream at him through my tears. And that just got him even more angry so he started ripping off my clothes faster. I still struggle to get out but its no use. Then I hear a few words say in my mind. 'Come on Shai its not real.' Then it hits me like a ton of bricks. I'm in a simulation.

I see simulation Eric get on top of me but before goes any further I yell at him. "I'm not having sex with you in a simulation!"

And with that the scene disappears and I wake up with a gasp escaping my lips. I look around and I'm back in the simulation room. But when I look over at Eric I see him staring at the ground with his head in his hands.
