'Okay, I think she's trying to tell us something… Quick, get the verbs...' - Chandler Bing, The One With Ross' New Girlfriend

---

I turned around as fast as I could, knowing that Rachel was pretty desperate. I was pretty concerned too. Was Monica alright? That was the first thing that popped into my head. Had she fainted?

My face was full of seriousness and I tensed my eyebrows. "Rach, what's wrong? Did something that happen to Monica?" I stepped forward, still alarmed.

"No… no…" She covered her face miserably. "It's not her… She's probably sleeping or something…" Her voice trailed away, making me confused and still worried. It was Monica. If something happens to her, I just can't let that get past me, whether or not it was because of me.

"Let me just go check on he-"

"Chandler she's fine." She interrupted me just before I could finish. At that point I knew I had to help her and I knew that Monica was probably alright. I know I shouldn't have let that slip straight away, but Rachel was just too desperate.

Rachel started to walk down to the couch, and sit on it uncomfortably, remembering what had happened before. Joey started walking towards her, but I knew this was not going to happen. Again. I had to stop him before anything else horrible and disastrous would happen. Again.

"Jo. No. You can just go back to bed." I started pushing him lightly towards the direction of his room.

"What? No!" He held his arm out to protest but I just kept on pushing him backwards. "Don't I get a say in this?"

"Do you really think that you haven't done enough damage for tonight?" I raised my eyebrows towards him, half pleading him, half sternly asking him. I can never go full on angry with him, he's my best friend.

Joey took a quick glance at my eyes with a tight cringe, looked down at the floor, and moved his foot lightly across the floor. He gave another look at my eyes and mumbled something under his breath. "Fine." He kept muttering under his breath.

"Okay?" I reassured him, hopefully no bad feelings between us.

"Yeah, okay." It was almost in a whisper, but his deep voice gave it away. His mouth hardly moved when he replied back, making it quite difficult for me to understand him. It was just like a parent asking their child to not do something that was wrong, so basically Joey was pouting.

"Thank you." To be honest, I was actually quite relieved. I thought that he would've given more of a fight but luckily he didn't. He backed down slowly and made his way towards his room and locked it.

I turned around slowly to face Rachel and started walking, pacing myself, wondering what she might ask me about. Surely she didn't want to do what she did to Joey to me? She knows that I want to be with Monica, right…?

I sat down next to her, not as close, but I was able to listen to her. "So. What's up Rach? What's wrong?"

Rachel took a deep breath as if she was preparing for an exam that she didn't even study for. "Okay. Um. So, Ross."

I nodded, pleased that she didn’t want to do anything with me. "Y'know Ross, right?"

I smiled, nodding again, finally knowing what I must sound like in front of girls asking them on a date or something like that. Boy, was it not a pretty sight. I nodded my head slightly, concentrating on Rachel. "Yes, yes, of course I know Ross. I know Ross like I was in the same high school as he was." Which was true. Maybe half true in this world.
