It's Not That Simple

Nasty Day

The next day when we woke up, Shan delighted us with amazing heavy breakfast which he prepared himself. I was actually shunned by his celeity;  I mean we both didn't sleep the whole night and I was not even awake properly I was still yawning but he! He went for running after we were done with talking and after that, he even prepared breakfast. Oh my god! How he managed that? Is he Robo or something!! We four were having breakfast at the dining table.
You guys were awoken whole night! I mean literally, whole night, said Kavya shockingly looking me and Shaan.
Shan glimpsed at me and uttered, yes! And What so big in that Kavya? He said raising his eyebrow.
Nothing! I mean, Good! Very nice, she giggled. She looked at me and raised her eyebrow as if I have done something wrong or committed any crime and she got to know it.
Rishi was also looking at me and smiling as if there was something fishy.
I looked up at Shan who was silently eating his food trying not to look at anyone directly,
That was something which I didn't like; I mean why he was being embarrassed at that thing, didn't he think about this earlier before thinking of doing that?
After breakfast, we were about to leave before that I wanted to use the washroom so I moved toward the washroom which was in the room where kavya slept when I came out of the room, Shan was standing there. He smiled at me, but it was not how he smiles always it was something unusual; it was a formal smile like he was not actually happy to see me rather he was feeling wrong looking at me. Why was he behaving like that? What happened? Is it about last night? But that was what he wanted! Then why this sudden behavior change? I wanted to ask but couldn't.
You need anything? He asked.
No! I replied and moved to the door when he uttered, thank you Vani!
I stopped! we again looked at each other.
For? I uttered.
For everything! Last night was great, I will remember it forever, he said.
I said nothing.
He again uttered, Vani! Nothing has changed after last night, right! I mean there's nothing unusual in that, we are friends and we just spent some time together, right! and looked at me with the same hesitated smile.
Yes! I replied.
I mean we are still friends, right! Nothing more than that, only friends! Best one, he said.
No, we are no more only friends Shan! We are more than that, I wanted to say that but couldn't.
Yeah, I said and smiled but I was crying inside, I was feeling betrayed. I wanted to tell him that what happened last night was not just a friendly talk, it was more than that. I felt that. He didn't? How? I thought. He was lying! I wanted to tell him that, but I didn't. I know and I'm  hundred percent sure about that, that he also feels for me the same way as I do. I felt that last night; the way he was talking, sharing his experiences, memories of tough and good day, I totally felt what's going on in his mind and heart. I never felt that kind of connection with anyone.
He was about to say something when the doorbell rang and he excuses himself.
I also made myself towards the hall where Kavya and Rishi were busy with their phone. Kavya looked at me and then turned to Rishi. Rishi! Vani has now got a new friend, someone special you know! She doesn't need us now, let's go back home. Her someone special friend will drop her home, she said looking away from me.
Kavya, what are you saying? Stop blabbering anything! There's nothing like that and I am also coming with you guys. I replied.
Oh, is it! She said, Shan, is your no one?
Kavya, we are just friends! I replied, there's nothing like what you are thinking.
Oh, is it? Now tell me, from how long you know him? Tell me! She uttered folding her hands against her chest.
One and a half month! I uttered.
She raised her eyebrows. She was great at interrogating someone, she knows how to take the truth out of anyone's mouth. She never fears to ask, she was bold and confident about whatever she is going to ask or do.
And in just one month you have known him that much, that you talked to him the whole night? She said.
I didn't reply, because there was nothing to tell her or hide from her she knew it already, she knew everything; exactly what I was feeling.
Not getting the reply she was about to say something but was cut by Shan.
Guys! He came running, Guys, there's a problem, he uttered with a tensed face.
What! Said Kavya.
There's police at the door! He said.
What! We yelled in unison.
But why? What happened? Asked Kavya.
He first looked at Rishi and then uttered, Guys! They are looking for Rishi.
What! Uttered Rishi in threat.
Yes, and they have got to know that you are here and now they are not listening to me,  they want to talk to you, said Shan.
But! How did they get to know that I'm here? Said Rishi shivering with threat.
Your parents told them! said Shan looking Rishi with a guilty face. He was feeling bad for him, unknown of what Rishi has done he was trying every effort to solve that issue and make Rishi safe. He was a nice man and a good friend.
What! Said Rishi stammering. That means they went home first, met my parents and now they are here. They know everything! No! No! It cannot happen, dad! He will throw me out of the house, he cried.
Rishi relax! Said Kavya, we are with you, you are not alone so relax.
Yes! Rishi please calm down we will do something, we won't let you fight alone, I said.
Yes, Vani is right! We three are together, everything will be fine, don't worry, said Kavya.
Guys! Will you please tell me? What happened? What Rishi did? Why police want him? Said Shan in shock.
Shan! Actually, I said, then I looked Rishi who was crying out loud. Actually, Rishi leaked the question paper! I uttered.
What! When? Why? He asked shockingly.
During exams! Said Kavya.
But that was six months ago, why is police looking for him now? He said.
Maybe the dean got to know this now and he complained! I said.
But did they get that watchman, Karim? Said Kavya.
We all were in shock. We were not sure what to do? How to face this problem, how to bring Rishi out of this?
The doorbell rang again,
Guys! I think it's them! We need to go, at least let's go and check what's the problem? Said Shan.
Yes! He is right, let's check. said kavya.
Rishi! You stay here, do not come out until we call you, okay! Said Shan.
We moved towards the main door where officers were waiting.
I try to call Dad! Maybe he could help! Said Rishi in tension and took out his phone.
