"What do you guys think about the witches that are said to live in Shadow Woods?" Beckett, a friend of Roman's, asked. He was sitting upside down on his chair, looking between his friends curiously to gauge their reactions.

"They're total bullshit," Roman waved him off, looking disinterested. He had heard all about the supposed witches who lived in the woods surrounding the small town when he had moved here. At first the idea had freaked him out some, though he would never admit it, but he had grown to doubt people's claims of the witches in the woods. "All of the supposed sightings of them sound so different. Sometimes people will claim it's two guys living out there, and then the next day someone claims they saw a man and a woman. It's just a silly rumor that no one seems to be able to keep straight."

"I dunno about that, Roman..." Patton butt in, seeming nervous. "I've heard some of the people who say they've witnessed something out there. They really sound serious about it. I think there might be some truth to it."

"Maybe they just saw a person out there." Roman shrugged, though he was a lot less dismissive than he was with Beckett previously.

"It's a small town. We all know each other. No one goes out there and if they did, wouldn't they recognize each other?" Patton countered, and Roman frowned.

"What do you think, Beckett?" Roman questioned, looking back at their friend who was beginning to go red in the face. Beckett flipped himself so he was right side up, going a little too fast and cursing. Patton giggled softly at their friends actions, not noticing the way Roman frowned. He definitely wasn't jealous. That would be silly.

"I think... the two of you should go find out for yourselves what's out there." Beckett suggested, grinning at the two of them. "It's Halloween, you should go explore the woods tonight! Then come back and tell me if you find the witches or not."

"I-I don't know about that," Patton said quickly, eyes wide. "That sounds dangerous."

"I agree with Patton on this one." Roman frowned. Beckett rolled his eyes at that, meeting Roman's eyes with a smirk.

"Yeah right. I bet you're just too much of a wimp." Beckett quipped, sticking his tongue out at Roman who looked offended.

"I am not!"

"Prove it then!"

"Fine! I'll go out there tonight and prove that I'm not a wimp, and that there are no witches living there." Roman crossed his arms over his chest, glaring at Beckett who smiled smugly.

"W-Wait, you can't go out there alone Roman," Patton said, looking between the two of them. "Beckett! Take back what you said. If you say he's not brave enough to go then he'll never listen to me! He can't go out there."

"It's too late, he already said it." Roman directed his gaze towards Patton, glare softening. "I'll be fine, Pat. I'll bring a flashlight and my phone. I'll go looking for twenty minutes and if I don't find anything then I win. Deal?"
