Patton smoothed out his apron, peering up at the clock on the kitchen walls to check the time. It was fifteen minutes past four, which was past the time that the coffee shop Patton owned was meant to be locking up its doors for the day. He stepped out of the kitchen, grabbing the keys attached to his belt when he paused, looking towards one of the tables. Someone was still there.
Patton watched the person for a moment, recognizing him as one of the coffee shops regulars. He remembered him mostly due to his handsome looks-he could remember the first time the man had shown up in his shop. While taking his order Patton had stumbled over his words awkwardly, cheeks a bright red and heart racing. The man-Roman, he remembered from taking his order every day-had simply offered a wide, beautiful smile when Patton apologized for being clumsy, nearly dropping his drink as he handed it over. Patton couldn't help but notice him when he came in. He was just so breathtaking.
He was certain that Roman should have known their closing time, as he had always left just before Patton locked up, so he didn't really understand why he was still here now. Patton came to the conclusion that he must have been distracted with whatever he was doing on his laptop, and made his way over to him to attempt to discreetly remind him of the time.
"Hello," Patton smiled brightly at the man as he approached him, standing beside of his table. "Roman, right? You're here later than usual."
"Good afternoon, Patton," Roman smiled back, Patton trying not to get so excited over noticing that Roman didn't even glance at his name tag before saying his name. He came in every day, of course he was going to learn it. "Yes, I just had a bit more to get done here. Shouldn't take too long."
Patton smiled understandably, nodding his head. "Well... I suppose I'll let you finish up, then."
Patton frowned as he turned away, heading back towards the front counter. He really needed to be closing up, but he also didn't want to be rude to a customer. Besides, Roman had said it wouldn't take much longer so what was the harm in staying just a little later? Patton didn't exactly have anything urgent to get to after work. He could wait.
Another fifteen minutes passed and Patton was growing bored of glancing back and forth between Roman and the clock. He made his way back over to the table Roman was sitting at, hovering nervously by him for a moment.
"What exactly are you working on?" He questioned, out of genuine interest as well as boredom. Patton thought that maybe distracting him would help in getting him out of the coffee shop so he could close up as well.
"A new chapter for my book," Roman answered, looking up from where he was typing to smile softly at Patton. Patton's cheeks flushed as he found his eyes lingering just a bit too long on his smile, averting his eyes.
"O-oh, that's interesting. What's it about?" He managed out to distract Roman from the squeaking noise he let out as he laughed at his embarrassment.
"It's a love story. I don't want to go too much into detail or I'd probably talk forever." Roman said as Patton finally met his gaze again. "Maybe you could read it sometime, once it's completed. You don't have to, of course but-"
"I'd love to!" Patton interrupted, smiling brightly. Roman's smile grew a little wider, and Patton nearly forgot that he was supposed to be trying to get rid of this customer, not end up flirting with him. He closed his eyes for a moment to get his thoughts in order, smile slightly smaller. "So, how long exactly does writing a new chapter take?"
