Happy New Years guys! This oneshot is a part two to the one I wrote a while ago, the one that I later admitted was about my at the time crush and now girlfriend. For New Years we decided to write oneshots for each other's pages(mine isn't done yet due to family emergencies), and this is the one she wrote! I hope that you enjoy it, make sure to leave comments telling her how much you love it! (I'm gonna be reading right along with you so if I comment on my own book, that's why) anyways, take care of yourselves! Bye!-Bob
Patton and Roman sat there for almost an hour, both boys just talking about the one they had feelings for.
" Y'know, you should say something to Virge," Patton mentioned, starting to untangle himself from his bed.
" Wait, why are you leaving? You're not staying with me while I do this?"
" Nope. If you have to talk to Virgil, I'm going to talk to Logan. I'm not going to go too far away, but I'm calling him and you'll just make me laugh. "
Roman started to protest, sticking his tongue out.
" See, I told you. Just call- well, actually probably text Virgil. "
"Fine," Roman slumped down on Patton's bed, groaning. " Help me at least?"
Patton shook his head, grabbing his phone, and walked out.
Roman pulled his phone off the bed and swiped the screen to get the BuzzFeed quiz about Disney off the screen. He opened his texting app and hovered his hand over Virgil's contact name. The two had texted a bit, but never about anything super interesting. Mostly it was Roman forgetting about the homework and frantically texting Virgil about it and sometimes even resorting to begging for answers thinly veiled as help. It wasn't that the two never talked, but most of their communication was face to face with Logan and Patton or in a chat with at least one other person. Roman didn't like the awkward silence when it was just him and Virgil in person and Virgil wasn't comfortable texting one on one, he claimed he never knew what to say.
A few minutes passed and finally Roman actually clicked on Virgil's name. He quickly typed out a simple text, nothing about his feelings, simply about the work assigned in class. Roman had actually done it for once, but Virgil didn't have to know that. He also didn't need to know that Roman's definition of doing the work was to copy Patton's work when the other boy had gone to the washroom.
Patton returned to his room before Roman got a text back.
" How'd it go? Does Virgil love you too? " Patton asked as he climbed onto his bed. His eyes were shiny and Roman couldn't tell if it was from laughing or crying. Of course, Patton was smiling but after years of watching Patton put on a smile to hide his pain, Roman couldn't tell how Patton was feeling. Roman put his arm out for his friend to climb under. The two had been friends for so long that they were practically brothers.
" Don't know yet. He hasn't texted back yet. What about Logan? He loves you, right? He has to. "
Even if he was utterly exhausted with his own attempts at flirtation, Roman still wanted his friend to find love. And yes, both boys were being rather liberal with the word " love" but it was the most fun to say.
Patton stopped smiling, his happy façade dropping for just a moment before he put it back up. " He didn't say yes. "
" Did he say no?"
" Well, no. But-"
Roman interrupted Patton, not wanting the other boy to get too caught up pitying himself. " Logan sucks at emotions. He probably just needs time to process. "
" Yeah, but if he likes me, he'd know. "
" Did he hang up on you?"
Patton started to say something but the words never came.
" Walk me through everything that happened. "
Patton didn't say anything.
" Patton," Roman laid his head on Patton's shoulder. " Please. "
Patton nodded slightly. " I don't know how. I'll get all emotional and stuff. You're the dramatic one. "
Roman laughed. " Let's do it this way then. Yes or no questions. Did he pick up? "
Patton nodded.
" Did you ask him out?"
" No."
" Does he know you like him?"
Patton timidly shook his head.
" Dude!"
Patton shrunk back. Roman couldn't tell if it was from his outburst or the beeping coming from his phone.
" Sorry. How is he supposed to know that you like him if you don't tell him?"
" I'm really obvious. "
" You are but you need to tell him. Logan isn't good at that kind of thing. "
Patton nodded and smiled. " Check your phone. It went off earlier. "
Roman picked up his phone, swiping past the photo of Logan, Patton, and Virgil at Disney World from the year before.
It was a nice picture, Virgil was pretending to be bored but it was obvious how much he was enjoying the park. Logan was standing next to Patton, both of them smiling. Patton had climbed on the bench and was balanced on there with his arms on both Vigil and Logan's shoulders. The four of them had decided to go in the middle of September so it wouldn't be too crowded, that way Virgil didn't get overwhelmed and Roman wouldn't have to wait too long to meet characters.
Roman had a couple of notifications, but the one he cared about the most was from Virgil. He explained how to do the homework and apologized for not responding, saying that he had been listening to music and didn't notice his phone.
He and Roman texted for a while longer, Patton staring over Roman's shoulder to read the texts until Roman and Patton both were startled by Patton's phone going off.
Logan was calling him.
Patton left the room and came back a few minutes later grinning like the Cheshire Cat. " He and I have a date on Saturday!"
"Patton, that's awesome! I'm so proud of you. Tell me all about it. "
The two sat on Patton's bed and talked until Roman's phone rang. " That's my cue, Patton. Got to go. I'll text you. "
As Roman drove home, he planned out everything he would say to Virgil when the two continued texting.
The two texted until early into the morning and right as Roman was getting tired and planning to go to sleep, his tired brain decided it was time to make his move. He composed a text to Virgil asking him if he had any feelings for him in a subtle enough way that if Virgil said no, Roman would not have given away his own feelings.
After sending the text, Roman realised what he'd just done and laid there debating how much he'd just destroyed his life.
After a few minutes that felt like centuries, Virgil texted back. He liked Roman. A lot. But he didn't know if Roman liked him because again, Roman had been so vague about his feelings.
The two talked about where to go from there and finally decided that yes, a relationship was a great idea. They had school in the morning and despite both of them being beyond exhausted, it was nice. They got to see each other throughout the day. Of course, their relationship wasn't awkward in the friend group because Logan and Patton had also gotten together. Double dates soon followed.
Maybe, Roman decided, crushing wasn't so bad.
