Shock and heartbreak

Those emotions echoed through my heart and mine hearing him say that. The inside of my throat began to tighten, and my eyes began to well up with tears. My real parents. Never had I thought I would hear those words said out loud in my lifetime. All I've known is what it's like to be alone.

I was six years old when I was found in Lakewood Hills Forest. I was told it was a group of hikers who had found me out in a clearing. Drenched in the rain and mildly hypothermic, they called the park rangers right away. My only personal belonging being a small locket that to this day hung around my neck. Supposedly, I sat in the hospital for days to be claimed by my parents, who never came. After some time, I was put into foster care. I was passed home to home until 4 years ago Luke and Natalia Spencer decided to adopt me and it was great for the first year. A common problem I had with my guardians was connecting with anyone. Doctors had asked my parents to try to connect with me the best way they can. So, they gave me whatever I wanted. They were convinced that pleasing me with gifts would help me open, to know about my past and accept them into my life. I really tried.

No one believed me until Dr.Walters had talked to my parents about traumatic related amnesia. It must've made my parents feel like it was their fault. Their sweet and charismatic gestures and attitude began to fade. I would hear them fighting about sending me back, that I was still a minor and they could hire a lawyer to "take care" of all necessary work needed. That it turned made me feel worse. To not be wanted was something I wouldn't wish on any kid. I learned that at the end of the day all I needed was confidence in myself. I would have my own back and I would pave my own pathway in life without anyone else.

My real parents.

A subtle chuckle escaped my lips. "I have no real parents." I said sourly.

A slight frown appeared on his face, he looked down. "Arcadia, I know how you must feel and this may be hard to believe but-.."

"BUT NOTHING!" I said with more volume

His lips began to form more words.

"No! You don't get to say that! You don't and I don't want to hear it! I meant what I said and I'll say it again. I have no real parents. I was abandoned and to me anyone who would claim me now is as good as dead!" I spat out with trembling words.

"Please Arcadia, just hear me out." He said.

Tears began to streak down my face.

"Please just.. just stop" I say as I walk away.

I walk towards the end of the car propping the door to open.

In front of me was a tall woman blocking my exit from this awkward and painful conversation.

She smiles at me and walking behind me I turn to face her.

Her bright emerald eyes captivated my attention. She was almost ordinary, having a fair complexion that complimented her eyes. She had long black hair that waved past her shoulders. She looked to be very young at first glance, upon closer look she had small aging wrinkles near her eyes and mouth. She softly bows her head.

The first words she said to me being "Beautiful. Just like your mother." She says happily.

Suddenly her happiness changed to confusion, she cocks her head to the side taking the back of her hand she wipes the tears from my right cheek.

Taking a step back I say, "I'm sorry who are you?'

She turns to Tristan who purses his lips and mouths "I'm sorry"

She turns back to look at me, her smile reappearing on her face.

"Sweetheart my name is Anna. You must be starving we're just arriving to our destination. Come now, I know you must be confused, and I promise to answer all your questions once we get to the manor and get you fed."

Something deep down tells me she was a good person and my gut feeling agreed. I decided to take a leap of faith right there. Yeah sure, go ahead follow the strangers after almost dying because that's a good idea.

Looking at her neckline, I was met with another shocking discovery. My locket. She had the same locket that I had. My pupils grew and zoned it on it. It was identical. Silver with an intricate dragon engraving. Just like mine.

Following my sight, she met with my eyes and smirked. Holding out her hand she beckons me to take it and follow her.

Taking a deep breath, I took her hand and followed her as we touch ground in somewhere I have never been.
