Once we arrive a black and tinted out limousine arrives to the curb of our station, our driver exits as he visibly swallows and takes his hat off slightly bowing his head in my direction. Okay..a bit odd this is like second person that's has done this towards me today. Man, British people are way nicer than Americans.
"Good Morning, my name is Henry. I am the driver currently assigned to you. I assume we will be going home Ms. Elford?" he asks Anna.
She nods. "Please Henry." She says.
"Of course Ms.Elford it would be my absolute pleasure." He says opening the door for Anna, Tristan and me.
I slide in towards the far back end of the car as Tristan and Anna sit themselves directly across from me.
"The estate is about 2 hours away. This will give time to address any questions or concern you may have" she says to me.
My chest felt heavy, underneath my heart beat quickly like a jackhammer. My anxiety rose, so almost naturally my eyes wandered to Tristan who slightly smiled at me nodding his head. Remembering what he said, that I can trust him. I took a deep inhale.
"Okay. I'm ready to hear everything" I said. My eyes zeroing in on the locket.
"Think of it as a way that you know my loyalty to you Arcadia. Your real mother and father had assigned Tristan and I to be your trusted guardians. To watch you as you matured to your adulthood and protect you from any malicious force out here. The lockets we share are connected; it allows me to sense whenever you are in any serious danger. They were created by a close friend of your fathers. It's how we knew of your incident at your school. Of course, we have always been in the background of your life silently watching. Our only purpose ensuring the future of our home remains safe until it's time." She said.
Raising my eyebrow, so many questions filled my mind, but I let her continue.
"I only ask to please keep an open mind because its quite a lot of information and of course you may have many questions so please let me finish before you form any sort of opinion and questions." She said.
"Okay..." I say. Not sure where this is going but I'll indulge to see what's going on.
I'm a pessimist at heart, but Tristan did save my life. You might believe I'm crazy, getting into a car with complete strangers. That locket was enough to intrigue me, having a backup plan if this went to shit. I knew I'd do whatever it takes to get out of any situation alive. Hell, I'd even open this door and roll out of a moving car to get away. So far, they haven't given me reason to not trust them.
"Arcadia, I know you must've grown a quite difficult life. I'm here to fill in those blanks for you. Please keep an open mind, first thing to address. Tristan and I only have intervened because you are in immediate danger and we must get you home as soon as possible. Your real home, where you grew up."
"In danger?!" I said very worried. What the hell is going on?!!
"Please Arcadia, this may be a lot to take in. Despite what you may believe, your parents loved and cared deeply for you. They had to send you away, maybe it's best I start there. Your name is Arcadia Pendragon, princess of Camelot and daughter King Arthur and Queen Guinevere." She said with much pride and confidence. She smiled at me.
What. The. Hell.
"Look okay joke's on fucking me to let this go on so far, take me back please. I will not have you play with my emotions. I'll be dammed that someone joke like that about my life. GET ME HOME RIGHT NOW. Camelot? Kings and Queens?! You're sick! How could you say such fucking nonsense and expect to just play along?! No, not today." I said. Grabbing the door handle I realize it was locked, my heart sank. I was trapped.
Tristan and Anna raised their hands. "Please Princess, now that you know your real identity we're able to address you as so. Please trust us" Tristan said.
Tears started to roll down my cheeks. I hated showing my vulnerability. How could people be so cruel?
Anna muttered something in another language underneath her breath. Suddenly my locket flew from my neck to meet hers. My eyes opened wide with shock, what the hell just happened.
"Please, I know this is a lot Princess. What I just demonstrated was the connection between us. This is how you know you can trust me and to know what I say is true. I was given power by Nimue and Merlin, just like you. To protect you. When you were born, your parents and Merlin presented you to Nimue. The Lady of the Lake, who knew you would one day need magic to protect Camelot and ensure the Pendragon legacy granted this request of your parents and Merlin. You may not know it, but you hold power greater than mine deep inside. You will need it for the malicious forces yet to come, the threat of these forces are what forced your parents to send you away."
The partition between Henry and us rolled down.
"Ms. Elford, we're here" he said.
"Thank you, Henry. Princess, welcome to the Pendragon Estate. In another words, welcome home." She said smiling at me. She hands me my locket.
I stare at her dazed. Confused, angry and sad but relieved all at once.
Henry opens my door and what I see was absolutely breathtaking.
