A solid year and a half. That's how long Taeyong and Jaehyun dated. But it only took ten months of dating before Jaehyun steeled his nerves and asked Kun to go shopping with him.
"Really? Already?" Kun had asked, "you're so damn sure that you're picking out a ring now? "
"Yeah, I'm sure," Jaehyun said, "Even if I didn't marry him, I don't think I would ever love another."
"Wow, you're so romantic," Kun rolled his eyes, but helped Jaehyun pick one out anyway.
"Should I get something that has a flashy diamond, or should I get that simpler one, or should I—"
"I'm sure he'd love anything you gave him," Kun cut Jaehyun off before Jaehyun picked out everything in the store. .
In the end, they had settled on the simpler one. But the small velvet box would sit in Jaehyun's nightstand drawer for another eight months, before Jaehyun blew the dust off and went to get it polished again.
"Have you ever thought about life after this ends?" Taeil asked Taeyong one evening.
"What are you talking about?" Taeyong said, looking up from the lyrics he was writing.
"When we're no longer young and our joints ache from dancing, what do you want to do with your life?" Taeil asked.
"Why are you thinking this way?" Taeyong asked, "I know you're the oldest one here, but you don't have to be so sad about it."
"You're a menace," Taeil said, smacking Taeyong's arm, "Let me rephrase that; what are your plans with Jaehyun?"
"I hadn't thought about that," Taeyong whispered. The future is scary, the last time he thought about something so far ahead was when Jisung asked if he could take Chenle to the winter formal dance, and Taeyong had taken him out to buy a nice suit.
"What about you and Doyoung?" Taeyong asked.
"Probably go out of the city, maybe go back to our hometowns, settle down, adopt a kid or two, raise the next generation's vocal gods," Taeil shrugged.
"Really? You guys aren't gonna tie the knot or anything?" Taeyong asked.
"We're waiting," Taeil said.
"For what?"
"You'll know," Taeil said, putting his headphones back on. Taeyong shook his head, turning back to the next chart topper under his pencil right now.
