2 weeks after the raid on the mansion, much has changed. For one, the CCC has been all but silenced across the country, and the families are now free of the threat. As well, the Monarch Gang was also all but wiped out, and the Tochese gained a massive amount of territory and wealth.
As Leader sat in his office, looking at a picture of him and his brother when they were younger, Marcus walked in.
"Hey boss, how's it going?" Marcus said as he came to sit down. He had just gotten to the office, meanwhile Leader had been there for an hour already.
"I'm fine, how bout you?" Leader said in a more quiet, raspy voice. He sounded completely uninspired and down.
"Eh, I'm doing good. My cousin Vincenzo's coming down from Italy tomorrow, I'm taking him downtown with my-" Marcus looked at Leader and saw he really didn't care, so he changed the topic.
"Anyways, I came to talk to you about... Well you know who. You aren't gonna believe where we found him." Marcus laughed. Leader was unresponsive.
"Apparently he got a call by someone telling him we won the war against the CCC. He got caught trying to escape from New Jersey and travel to Canada, not like that would do him any good." Marcus' expression turned twisted "We got connections there as well."
"Where is he now?" Leader asked.
"He's back at his office, but sent word that he was gonna come by sometime this week. It's already Thursday, so it'll probably be today or tomorrow. You know how he is with weekends." Marcus replied, giving off the impression he was excited for Paul's visit.
"Call him. If he's gonna come he may as well come today." Leader said, looking in his desk at his gun.
"Yeah good idea. It's better I call him, since if he saw your name pop up on the holo-phone he'd probably end up trying to escape to the afterlife instead." Marcus joked. He went outside and turned on his phone, and told Paul to come while Leader was still in the office. Paul hesitated but agreed, and Marcus smiled. He came back in and told Leader.
"Good. Now go and get me one of those disposable carpets. Oh and get some tape and gloves from the 11th floor as well." Leader said as he put on some gloves.
Paul was in his office, sweating like no tomorrow. He knew that if he went to this meeting, it would be his last. However, he thought now was as good a time as ever to go along with his plan, while the office was still recovering from the hundreds of agents they just lost. He took with him a silenced beretta, and hid it in his pants, behind his jacket. He thought he would go to get out his phone or some money, and would instead pull out the gun and kill Leader, then take out whoever was with him and then send men to take out his father as well. Paul had been planning the coup first with Gianluca, but after his death with his capos Torrie Santano, and Anthony Rocco. Torri would be in charge of taking out Raphael, Anthony would get the equipment needed, and they had prepared for this day for the last two months. Now, the plan was ready, but Paul wasn't sure he was.
Paul drove to New York with Jack Ranion, an Irish associate of his. He was told that if Paul didn't leave the office in 10 minutes, to tell Torrie and Anthony to stop the assassination. They got to the office 2 hours later, and waiting outside were Johnny "The Tyrant" Torise, and Donatello "The Bull" Oragiune. They were both bodyguards of Leaders, and were terrifying looking. Donatello went up and greeted Paul, Johnny didn't. Jack and the driver were told to park and wait for Paul outside. The two bodyguards then took Paul to meet with Leader.
Paul had firmly believed he would be killed in that elevator. When he wasn't he began to gain a bit of hope. Maybe Leader wouldn't kill him, and he could deal with this in a normal manner. it was a rare occurrence in their world, but it wasn't an impossibility. At least not to Paul.
