Kaycees POV
"Everybody wants a happy ending, right? But it doesn't always roll that way. Maybe this time. I'm hoping if you play this back... it's in celebration. I hope families are reunited. I hope we get it back, in somewhat like a normal version of the planet has been restored, if there ever was such a thing.
God, what a world. Universe now. If you told me 10 years ago that we weren't alone, let alone you know to this extent... I mean, I wouldn't have been surprised. But come on, you know. That epic forces of darkness and light that have come into play. And for better or worse, that's the reality Morgan and Kaycee's going to find a way to grow up in. So I found a private area to record a little greeting in case of an untimely death on my part. Not that death at any time is ever timely. This time travel thing that we are going to pull off tomorrow... it's got me scratching my head about the survivability of all this. But then again that's the hero gig. Part of the journey is the end. What am I tripping for? Everything is going to work out exactly the way it's supposed to."
He stands up and walks forward, crouching down and staring in front of him before looking up.
"I love you 3000."
The hologram turns off.
We get up from the couch, I take one of Morgan's hands in mine as the other is in peppers, I soon mind myself walking down the stairs of the porch, walking towards the lake. Pepper slowly setting down the flowers on the still water, Tony's first arc reactor placed on it. I smile at the words written around it.
"Proof that Tony Stark has a heart."
I sit down on the pier, watching as it floats on the water, slowly staring to drift away.
Some tears start to soak my cheeks. I feel a tightness in my chest. It's like the feeling of someone pressing on your chest so hard, you feel like your underwater, and with each moment that goes by, a wave crashes against your stomach, going through you and leaving back a little more water each time you take a breath, before you start to sink, and slowly more water starts to fill inside of you, to a point where it reaches your head and makes your head all fuzzy.
It's like you're drowning.
I feel a hand on mine, I don't need to look to know who it is.
And at that moment, I knew I wasn't alone.
And slowly, I felt myself getting pulled out of the water, being able to take a breath without sinking deeper.
The End.
Welp.
That was: d e p r e s s i n g.
I'm sorry.
