The flight from California to Atlanta was draining. I spent most of it either sleeping or attempting to read one of the various books my mother brought along.

We arrived a day earlier than expected. Which gives me the perfect opportunity to surprise Marcus. It was six a.m. on a Tuesday morning and my parents weren't forcing me to go to school.

We drove back to our house and unpacked. I spent about an hour unpacking, then straight into a well-deserved nap. I woke up a few hours later feeling more refreshed and energized.

I took a quick shower before dressing. I walked down the stairs to meet my mother watching Netflix in the living room.

"Hey mom, what are you watching?" I plopped myself on the couch beside her and stared at the screen.

"Hey baby, it's this romcom I found."

I nodded my head in response and rose once again. "Mother dearest," she looked up from the screen, "I would like to visit Marcus for a bit," I asked in a British accent.

"Sure, I don't mind. I thought you had left to meet him earlier." She smiled at me then turned her attention back to the movie.

I smiled to myself and went to my room to change. I packed a bag with more comfortable clothes and other accessories. I figured since I'm over there all the time I might as well keep a bag on me.

I wore a simple but cute dress.

"Hi, Mr. Lewis," I smiled as he looked over my visitor's pass.

"Hello, Miss Schmidt. How was the drive up here?" His tone was calm but tired.

"It was fine, how are you today?" I asked.

"I'm well." He handed the pass back to me and sent me a quick smile.

"Have a nice day." He smiled.

I drove through the rest of the way silently. I felt my heart begin to race as I pulled into the familiar driveway. I reached into the passenger seat to grab the gift I had gotten. I had the coaches of my brothers' football team sign a football for Marcus.

I remember him talking about how he'd always wanted to go there and meet them. I also showed some of his game footage giving him a lil push for the future.

I stepped out of the car and walked to the front door.

"You got this." The whisper escaped my mouth.

I knocked on the door, waiting for it to open. I listened to the footsteps approaching and a wide smile grew on my face. The door opened and I couldn't contain my excitement.

"Surprise!"
