Chapter 8:

“Mhmm….hmm…Rmmymm…rymmm...”

Ryan looked out of the window, massaging his temple by one hand thoroughly frustrated by the constant effort of Scarlett’s -trying to talk even with her mouth tied up. They had to move places and he wanted her mouth shut because he didn’t have the patience to answer her insistent questions and otherwise blabber, so the only solution for shutting her mouth was taping it up. Though, he should have known that, it wouldn’t faze her much, she still mumbled stuff and now they just sounded incoherent blabber – which was not any better than the previous rant.

“You know I think may be choking you would be my next option.” He barked off, glaring at her.

“Bmmm…Rymmm…” Quickly reaching over the console from his right hand he undid the tape off her mouth and removed the blind fold too.

“What is it?” Ryan hollered. Ryan was quickly amused as he saw her take her time wringing her neck, cracking her fingers and eyes darting everywhere over the dashboard and finally settled over his speedometer and widened before she screamed bloody murder.

“Wha…Ryan you are speeding. I’m shocked you didn’t get a ticket until now. Just slow the freak down.” She asserted; Ryan for a change easily complied.

“You know for all that effort to get to talk, I could have bet- you would have started with complaining about something else but not speed.”

“Meaning you know I would complain of something and you know what exactly - just right, so why wouldn’t you just tell me – why suddenly go all hulk on me? What- don’t you have any protocol before jumping someone and shipping them elsewhere? And how does taping up help? May be if you would have just told me already...We wouldn’t have to go through this trouble.”

“Jeez you can talk…”

“Well that was established long time back now.”

 “Yes. Right.”

“Well…?”

 “Hmmm...”

“Ah come on…this is going nowhere. Just tell me already.” Scarlett urged with a soft voice which made Ryan glance at her, and he felt his resolve breaking.

“Scarlett we asked you about your father back when we interviewed right, didn’t we?” His voice grew irritated at the end, grimacing over the mess that had happened.

 “Yeah…well what about that?”

"Do you remember what you had to say about this particular member of your family? Remember your exact words?” Ryan bit out the words, his anger surfacing g again. While Scarlett grew the exact shade of red her name symbolized as she recalled her childish replies to their insistent questions.

“Err…ah…yeah.” nervously biting on her lower lip.

“No…say what you answered them. Say it.”

“I...ah…might have said something along the lines… ‘My daddy strongest’.” Scarlett smiled timidly and looked at Ryan sideways when he had nothing to say but sulk angrily.

“But is this all about that? Well don’t you have a little sense of humor? Surely you got the little joke.” Scarlett answered still worrying on her lower lip.

“Well No. I didn’t get your little joke until later when we ran a background check over you and discovered that your dad is Major Lieutenant General in army. Do you know what repercussions this will have?”

“Yeah…my dad gonna bit up your ass.” Scarlett smirked, forgetting the tampered situation and sounding amused to which Ryan surprisingly did not respond angrily instead grinned as if he knew better.

“Well that and also you just got a bunch of hooligans to be worried about. They have set out to find you, as you’ve not only been spotted with their nemeses that would be the night you tried to stop me and also that your background just passed you up as a spy. Sweet ha?”

“I uh…but that’s not true. This was all just a coincident; I can never be a spy…” Scarlett looked pale; she didn’t want this to be made a military concern. She was hoping for some money extortion from her family by Ryan’s clique and then maybe she would have been released. Everything was just getting muddled and Scarlett’s good humor about the whole situation was starting to dissipate.

“What is that you guys have decided to do with me…so I’ve got them trying to get me…why do that bother you guys?”

“Are you kidding me? Unless you don’t realize it yet -these guy who have got you under your wing now, were waiting for a bait like you to get them to strike that gang out.”

“I don’t understand…how I can possibly… and why do you say it like you are not one of those…like you don’t belong  to these thugs trying to lock me up.” If Scarlett had looked at Ryan that moment, she would have caught the alarm in his stance but soon he recovered and chose to ignore her last comment.

“Since you are on their radar now; our gang wouldn’t have the trouble to hunt them down. They will soon be trying to find out both of us, that way we can strike when they do. You are going to be used as a bait Scarlett, hear that?” Ryan answered in a grave tone.

Scarlett heard it all right, she couldn’t begin to understand the enemity between the two gangs but she sure realized how deep she dug her grave. She was too confused and loaded with this new information in her head; she didn’t feel the jeopardy to her safety surfacing yet. She had so many things going on at once, her father, the spy thing, being used as a bet, going to have to stay for longer with Ryan. Scarlett knew Ryan was waiting for her to go off and scream his ears off right now but her mind was indulged in all the consequences of these situations while oblivious to Scarlett herself, her clumsy heart sped up with overtly different reasons.
