As I was getting ready the next morning, I received several texts from Shawn. Last night, I brought up the idea of him meeting my mother but never got a clear response. I guess he thought about it because he said:

Shawn 7:43 a.m. If its okay, I would like to meet your mom today. I am feeling better.

I immediately replied and couldn't help but get excited.

Rachel 7:44 a.m. Yes! I'm glad you are feeling better. Would you like to meet us for dinner after work?

We texted for a few minutes and picked a nice restaurant not too far from my clinic. I went to work with these plans on my mind all day.

Soon enough, the office was closing. My mother came in as I was packing up and we talked about how excited we each were feeling.

"I am so glad I can finally meet the man that makes you so happy" she said. I gave her a hug as we made out way to my car.

"Oh, I should of asked you to bring me a change of clothes. I have to go wearing my scrubs!" I complained.

"Honey, you look fine. Your scrubs make you look very mature." she smiled. I agreed with her and began driving to the restaurant. As we turned into the parking lot, I looked for Shawn's car.

"Looks like he's not here yet. Lets go in and grab a table." I said. We both walked in and took a seat in a booth, not too far from the door. The waiter brought us some waters as we waited.

I began to check my phone as my mom looked around the room.

"Hey, look at that guy. Isn't he cute?" my mom said. I looked at her with a confused face.

"Mom, we are literally waiting here to meet the GUY that I have been going out with. I can't be looking at other people" I said. I turned to see who exactly she was looking at then broke out in laughter. "Mom, that's Shawn!" I said turning back to her. We both cracked up and I waved my hand, signaling to Shawn that we were here. He smiled as he saw me and ran in our direction. I noticed that his face was still a little swollen.

"Hey Rachel, sorry I am a little late." he said with his beautiful voice. "You must be her mother?" he looked at my mom. They shook hands and my mom seemed to be very pleased.

"You still look a little swollen, are you sure you are feeling okay?" I asked, placing my hand on his cheek.

He took my hands in his and nodded.

"Trust me, I am okay." he said. His eyes sparkled. The three of us continued to talk and my mom asked many questions. Before we knew it, our food was brought out and everything looked great.

We started talking about his surgery and what his experience was like.

"I don't really remember much, just like showing up and walking to the back. Then I just fell asleep and woke up a few seconds later and everything was done." he laughed. He told us about how his manager, Mr. Gertler, struggled to get him into the house afterwards which made both my mom and I laugh.

"Yeah, I probably should of given him a heads up. You were pretty out of it." I chuckled. "You are definitely a lightweight when it comes to anesthesia" I said, poking his stomach.

"Not my fault" he shrugged.

"Well, I thought you were very brave." I smiled. He smiled in return and grabbed my hand underneath the table. We finished up and Shawn paid the check. He walked my mom and I to my car and shook her hand once more.

"It was lovely meeting you" he smiled. My mom placed her other hand on top of their hand shake.

"It was lovely meeting you too. I know you will treat my daughter right." she said. Their handshake broke and he came over and hugged me goodbye. As he turned away, he gave me a wink with his signature grin. I got into the car with butterflies in my stomach.

My mom and I spent the rest of the night talking about him. I could tell she liked him just as much as I did. She kept talking about how proud she was of me and how happy it made her to see me in such a good relationship. It made me happy to hear her say these things. We chatted for a long time until we realized how late it was. He hugged each other goodnight and went into our rooms.

Before I went to sleep, I sent a quick text to Shawn.

Rachel 1:53 a.m. Good job today, my mom likes you
