It had been a few weeks since my mom and Shawn had met. The three of us went out two more times before her visit came to an end. After she went back home, it was just Paisley and I.

It was a typical Tuesday at work and I was busy seeing back to back patients. As the it got later into the afternoon, the office started to clear, which was unusual. As the rest of the patients were on their way home, all of the staff was called into the large meeting room.
Dr. Stevens was standing at the front, waiting for the rest of us to come in. "Everyone," he said. "Today, we are going to do staff check ups. It is important to not only help patients, but to help each other keep a good oral hygiene. I think if we do it in pairs , it will be the most efficient. I will come through and check all of you individually".
Everyone looked around and partnered with whoever was standing next to them. I looked to my left, seeing my coworker, Eli, and we both nodded. The two of us headed into my exam room and he took a seat in the chair first. I got everything ready and pulled up his file, projecting it onto the monitor.
"Alrighty Eli, let's get started." I said, putting a bib around his neck. I went through the typical procedure and checked his teeth. Everything looked good and Dr. Stevens gave him the final 'okay'. He hopped out of the chair and walked out of of the room, grabbing a clean set of tools. It wasn't until he came back that I realized, it was my turn.
I took a seat as he prepared and cleaned everything. I was a little nervous, which normally never happens. I felt a few butterflies in my stomach but they weren't the same kind that I get whenever I'm around Shawn. These were more like moths. Eli clipped the paper bib around my neck and lowered the chair. I took a dead breath as he got the overhead light all situated. He rolled his chair underneath my head and I felt my long hair brush against his legs.
"Open, please" he said. I did as I was told and he immediately put his mirror and explorer into my mouth. I started to listen to the other sounds around me, which for the most part was Dr. Stevens' voice. I also heard footsteps but didn't put much thought to it because in this office, people are constantly walking from room to room. The footsteps kept getting closer and I thought maybe it was Dr. Stevens but found I was mistaken when I heard the voice.
"So I finally found you at a time where you can't speak" it said. It was Shawn.
Eli removed everything from my mouth and took one of his gloves off. Shawn came over and shook his hand, then took a seat next to the dental chair. I noticed he was holding a bouquet of flower.
"Who are those for?" I asked, sitting up on my elbows. He grinned and shook his head.
"They are for you. Happy one month anniversary!" he exclaimed.
"Oh my gosh, Shawn, you remembered. Thank you so much." I said, smiling from ear to ear. I got out of the chair and hugged him.
"Sorry to ruin this moment, but I'm not finished yet." Eli laughed. I sighed and sat back down, were he resumed to check and clean my teeth. He and Shawn chatted while he worked and I just laid there, probably looking like a fool. Every once and awhile, Shawn would lean over and rub my leg.
I saw Eli scoot back and I finally closed my mouth.
"You look pretty good. I just need Dr. Stevens to come in and finalize everything." he said. I nodded and sat up on my elbows once more, looking in Shawn's direction.
"What are you smiling at?" I asked, slightly confused. He shrugged his shoulders and continued to give me that same expression. Out attention was diverted as Dr. Stevens came into the room.
"Oh, I see the tables have turned." he laughed as he saw Shawn sitting on the side.
"How are you, Dr?" Shawn asked, like the nice gentleman he was. They continued to talk as I laid there, once again feeling like a fool. Having three guys, two of whom I work with, sitting around me is definitely a little intimidating. After what felt like ages, he finished up and I was allowed to leave. Shawn and I walked together to the parking lot but he stopped me before we got too close to the cars.
"You looked really cute back there." he smiled, grabbing my hands. I blushed a little and took a step towards him.
"Rach, we've been going out for a month now. I would really like it if I could call you my, you know... girlfriend" he said. I couldn't help but smile.
"Only if I can call you my boyfriend." I grinned, taking another step towards him. He grabbed my waist and we both leaned in, finding each others lips through our closed eyes. I pulled away and took a breath, leaning into him.
"Minty" he chuckled as I poked him in the stomach.
He put his arm around me and walked me the rest of the way to my car.
"I'll see you tonight" he said. I nodded and gave him one last kiss on the cheek before he returned back to where his car was parked.
"See you tonight" I thought to myself, feeling more and more excited for what was to come.
