The broken and the torn

She sat before the doctor, listening keenly. What is she saying??? Is she crazy??? This cannot be true. She sat blank for some time unable to speak as her diagnosis was a quite shock to her....

It has been a month since she has been experiencing these chest pains, and severe shortness of breath..... Her thoughts flashed right back to when she was 15 and had fainted on her way to school.... She woke up that morning not feeling her self. She begged not to go to school because of how she felt but her mom pressured her into going.....

She stood at the bus stop for quite some time and when she saw a taxi, she hurriedly for into it.... Her breath was cutting short and she felt so horrible...

Her chest began to tighten and before she knew it, all she could see was darkness and weakness captured her..
She woke up at the intrusion of bright lights piercing through her soul......
She looked around her but nothing looked familiar. She scanned the walls of the building but nothing was there either a grey walk stood there staring right back at her....
A pain in her hand caused her eyes to shot at the area.....
She then realize that she was in the hospital, but why, the thing she remembered seeing was darkness absolute darkness.....

Her eyes went straight to the entrance where a doctor was coming over to her. She humble awaits her presence as she needs to know why is she here.

Before she could ask any question the doctor began to speak.
She had informed her that she needs to do an ECG as it appears that she has a problem with her heart....

She remembered it clearly as her mother received her results for her echocardiogram, and decide she won't seek any future consultation because it might be an different illness.

She was dragged from her thoughts when the reality hit her... She have heart issues, if her mother did just brought her back to the doctor, she  would have known this long time... Now she knows it when she is pregnant..

What will happen to her baby?
Wat if her cardiac muscles aren't strong enough for delivering a child. Will she die in child's birth. All these questions play in her mind.

Mitral Valve Prolapse??? What the heck is that??? She wondered to herself..... Before another thought could rush to her brain the doctor provide her with the answer.

" So I know you must want to know what is Mitral valve prolapse" , she nodded in confirmation and the doctor continued. " So this is a condition where you have a deformity with one of your mitral valve, in this case when your heart filters blood and let it out to circulate in your body, the mitral valve would have been responsible for preventing unfiltered blood to enter the heart when it closes. Your mitral valve is very lengthy and flaps so instead of providing a seal to the heart, it allows blood to come back into the heart which is regurgitation...... This can cause severe blood clots, heart failure and stroke".

Kim sat there shocked, unable to speak. Her eyes was stinging now she wanted to break down and cry, but she needs to hold it together....
She looked at the doctor and if she was mad.... This can't be true.
How does this happen to her....
Heart issues.... Heart issues...

She was dragged from her thoughts when the doctor cleared her throat.
She jerked her head up to look at her then she began to speak. Kim was still lost for words...

" Ok so am going to give you a prescription with a blood thinner, a heart failure medication and a pill to relax you when you are having the shortness of breath."

She sighed, she hated pills but at this point in time, it seems as if she don't take these pills she will die.....

The thought of dying terrified her, because she only not live for herself now but for an unborn baby..... A tear fell from her eye and she felt the doctors eyes pressing on her face....
