Poppy was able to lose the soldiers after turning a corner. They should be off her tail for now, but now she was still homeless and needs another place to hide out for a while. She was in a pretty crowded area with more markets and people shopping. Poppy then sits on the steps in front of someone's house. She opens her book and starts to write.

Poppy: (writing) "November 6th. I had to leave the motel. Some soldiers were following me trying to take me back to that orphanage. Thankfully, I was able to make my escape. Less, now I'm in need of a place to sleep. And I'm getting a bit hungry. If only I had money for food. And milk. Ooh, milk would be so good right about now." (sighs)

Poppy's stomach started to rumble. She had to find food, or she'll starve. She did notice something up ahead. At a nearby shop, she saw something hiding behind a barrel that had some apples in. The thing came out and it was a little black cat, who had white fur on its muzzle and a little on its chest. It also had some of its hands and feet. The little cat climbed up the barrel and started to stuff apples into its bag. Poppy stares in surprise. As the black cat kept stuffing apples in its bag, the cat eventually got caught. The store owner yells at the top of his lungs. That causes the cat to run off with the bag full of apples. Out of curiosity, Poppy takes her chance to quickly follow the black cat before she lost it. She followed it into a dark ally way.

Poppy: "Hey!"

The black cat turns to look at Poppy. It was a little female black kitten. She looked like Poppy, but with different fur and looked like she could be her age.

Black Kitten: "What do you want?"

Poppy: "I saw you steal those apples."

Black Kitten: "So what? What are you gonna do? Tell on me?"

Poppy: "No, I'm just curious. Why did you do that?"

Black Kitten: "It's none of your business!"

Poppy: (crosses arms) "Well, you don't have to be rude about it. Stealing is wrong, don't you know that?"

Black Kitten: "I know, I'm not stupid."

Poppy: "Then why did you do it?"

The black kitten says nothing. The store owner shows up from a distance behind Poppy.

Store Owner: "Hey, you! Theft!"

Poppy turns around in shock. The little black kitten then runs past Poppy on all four legs and runs underneath the store owner's legs. Poppy tries to catch up, fast the store owner too.

Store Owner: "HEY! SOMEONE STOP THOSE KITTENS!"

As Poppy ran, she was pulled forcefully by her arm from behind a house. It was the same black kitten, who now has her hand on Poppy's mouth to keep her quiet. The store owner runs past the house they were hiding behind. Once it was safe, the kitten removes her hand from Poppy's mouth.

Black Kitten: "He's gone now. It's finally safe."

Poppy: "This wouldn't have happened if you hadn't stolen from him in the first place."

Black Kitten: "Oh shut up, I saved you from getting caught there. Be thankful."

The kitten then starts to walk away.

Poppy: "Where are you going?"

Black Kitten: "None of your business."

Poppy: "Could you at least tell me your name?"

Black Kitten: (stops walking) "Misty." (continues to walk)

Poppy then runs up to her finally coming in front of her. She brings her hand out for a handshake.

Poppy: "It's nice to mean you, Misty. I'm Poppy."

Misty smacks her hand away.

Misty: "If you're trying to be my friend, it's hopeless. I don't need any friends."

Misty continues to walk away from Poppy, but Poppy runs after her to catch up. Once she does, she walks behind her to follow her.

Poppy: "What do you mean you don't need friends. Everyone needs a friend now and then."

Misty: "Not me, I prefer to be alone. And quit following me."

Poppy: "No one likes to be alone. Maybe that's why you're so cranky. You just need a friend. I'll be your first."

Misty: "I don't need friends. Why don't you get lost, or something?"

Poppy: "Hey, that isn't very nice to say to your first friend ever."

Misty: (sighs)

The two kittens finally make it to an unpopulated street were on the side of the side was a little tent. Poppy looks at it in confusion.

Poppy: "That's where you live?"

Misty: "Yup, this is my home. (gets in Poppy's face) And you're not welcomed."

Misty then walks into an er tent leaving Poppy who was just standing there.

Poppy: "Oh come on, that's no way to treat your friend."

Misty: "We're not friends, so go away."

Poppy: "But I have nowhere else to go."

Misty: "That isn't my problem."

Poppy: "And I'm so hungry."

An apple rolls out of Misty's tent and stops at Poppy's feet. Poppy picks it up and rubs it against her fur to clean it a little.

Poppy: "Thanks."

Misty doesn't reply. Poppy's smile starts to fade away. She goes next to the tent and takes a seat. She then takes her book out and starts to write again.

Poppy: "I was finally able to get something to eat, more less. I'm currently sitting at an empty street next to a tent owned by an angry cat named Misty. I saw her stealing some apples earlier and we both got away from an angry store owner."

Misty: "What?"

Poppy looks up to see Misty peeking her head out to see what's up.

Poppy: "What is it?"

Misty: "What are you doing?"

Poppy: "Oh, did I bother you? Sorry, I was just writing in my book. It's what I do to keep track of my life and it helps me relax sometimes. It's so I'll have a story to tell when I'm older."

Misty: "Is this what you do all the time?"

Poppy: "Not all the time. Just sometimes if I have something to say, I write it. I don't any friends, so the book is like to only thing that listens to me."

Misty: "Where did you come from before?"

Poppy: "I came from an orphanage. I ran away."

Misty: "Why?"

Poppy: "I did something very bad. I don't really feel like talking about it. All I know is that I can't go back there. I'm too ashamed of what I did. I wish I can make things right, but...I feel like I'll make worse if I try. It's what the kids use to tell me, I'm nothing."

Poppy holds her head down in sadness. Misty stays quiet for a minute before she goes back into her tent not saying anything else.

Poppy: (sighs) (writing) "Signing off, for now, Poppy."

Poppy closes her book and rests it down. She then takes a bite out of her apple as she sits on the sidewalk thinking about what might happen next.
