Not my best chapter, but enjoy. :P

Nick's brown irises were on mine. I studied the deep set of dark, oak colored eyes as I made out his lips mouthing 'No.' And then he blinked, his dark lashes acting as curtains for when he opened his eyes again, they were a much lighter color. His lips curved into a smile as he let out a small chuckle. "But I mean, haunted spirits?" His smile faded as he scratched his head. "I shouldn't be talking though; I didn't know what went on."
I was about to speak up, but in that moment someone's head appeared down the bookshelf's line. "There's no talking in the library, in case you two weren't awa-" the librarian's eyes widened slightly behind the frame of her glasses when she took in both our faces. But she didn't move. Clearing her throat, she spoke again. "I assume you two will be taking a seat soon?"
Nick nodded at her slightly after reaching over and grabbing a random book off the shelf. My eyes wandered over the words on the binding. The Life and Works of Edgar Allan Poe. Looking down at the text in my hand, I realized it was the same book. I raised my eyebrow at him before he extended his arm toward the staircase, leading downstairs. As I followed along with my gaze, it ended at an empty table near the window that stood as tall as the ceiling.
So I ended up spending the period with Nick. No big deal, right?
I was drowned in my book, furious that I couldn't pay attention to one word from any of Poe's poems. And I knew very well what the reason was. At times I could feel him staring at me, but I didn't mind the attention. I kind of liked it. It made the skin on my face heat up, probably showcasing a rush of rose-like color to people staring at me. But whenever I glanced his way, his brown orbs would be engrossed in the book. And I could tell he was really paying attention to the words, unlike me, because his forehead crinkled up as he read a few things.
Letting out a small sigh, I placed the back of the book down on the table. "How come Ariana told me that neither body was found?"
Nick looked up, surprised at my sudden question.
"Sorry," I said, hinting that I knew I had spoken out of nowhere.
"Are you sure that's what she said?"
Looking down at my book, I grabbed it, tapping my pen against the page. Maybe she was just as shocked as everyone else. She probably just didn't show it. "It's just weird," I replied, biting my lip on habit as I continued tapping the end of my ballpoint pen against the book's edge. When I glanced over at him, he was watching me.
He nodded over toward the book and my tapping pen. "What's up? Why Poe?"
"English assignment," I said as I shut the book and dropped my pen into the open hole of my backpack. It had been a couple weeks since I had arrived, so I knew the bell schedule by heart. "Something about tapping into my dark side," I replied, shrugging as I gave a halfhearted smile before I placed the book along with my other stuff in the bag too.
This caused Nick to emit a chuckle. When I turned to look at him, I had noticed he didn't have a bookbag with him, but was just carrying his I.D. card and the book. He got up, eyeing the grandfather clock on the other side of the library. I noticed a black mark on his upper arm. I couldn't make out what it was... It looked like a crow.
The bell snapped me out of my thoughts.
His head was tilted to the side slightly as his eyes studied me. "Now you look more like her."

I'm sorry, I didn't really put my all into this chapter. And I'm sorry I'm slacking. I'll try to catch up, I promise. Hopefully it'll go back to matching for each date soon!
