PENNY GRACER stood in silence as the elevator leading to the lobby of the CCPD went up and Barry just stayed silent. It had been silent since Barry had picked her up from the store. He had borrowed Joe's police car and that ride had been silent too. Usually, Barry was talking to her about some new science concept, but today Penny had just gotten in the car while Lucy and Barry talked for a few minutes outside the store and boom, silence.
"So," Penny started the conversation, "Who are we asking?"
Penny's research depended on Punnett Squares of a variety of people and she was kinda short of volunteers. Funny, leaving a packet form for people to fill out and sign to be a part of some research on Genomes at the counter of Shoe Central didn't exactly grab people's attention.
Penny even saw a person tear off a small corner of the packet to leave their number for Lucy. It was so rude! Especially as they did it right in front of Penny and Genevieve (who helped make the packets). Good thing Lucy put the paper through the shredder. The man deserved it.
Barry looked at Penny and shrugged, "I don't know yet. All we have to do is ask really." Then it was as if a lightbulb lit up above Barry's head cause he bent down in front of Penny to get on her level and looked her straight in the eye.
"But, you've got a secret weapon that people can't say no to." Barry smiled joyfully, he then winked, "You just gotta shine those big, doe eyes at them and boom, you've captured them."
Penny grinned goofily, "Like a pokemon?"
Barry chuckled, "Sure, you just gotta shine those eyes, maybe quiver your lip if they try to resist. I'll point out the softies for you. You can already count Joe and Eddie in. Captain Singh might be a bit harder, but he's got a soft spot for children. You can break him."
The elevator door dinged and opened as they reached the floor they needed and they walked in slowly. Barry pointed to the woman at the front desks.
"That's Officer Connors, go ask her. She's always the one to buy the girl scout cookies when they come in." Barry pointed at the adult blonde woman in uniform.
Penny nodded and walked over to the woman with her clipboard, with the shortened packets that Barry helped her to create, "Excuse me, miss. My name is Penny and I'm doing a project on Genes and Genetics for school and it would really help if you could volunteer for it and fill out this form."
Barry watched from Penny's side as Officer Connors bent down in front of Penny and smiled, "Of course I will! How many volunteers are you needing?" She asked as she took a form from Penny's extended hand and started filling it out with a pen.
Penny shrugged, "I'm aiming for as many as I can. 75 people would be good, but 100 would be great. I'm doing a project and paper on Punnett Squares and what contributes to dominant genes. I already have 55 people's forms."
Connors' eyes widened, "That much? What grade are you in, Penny?"
"11th grade," Penny said rather bluntly.
"Um, wow." She said in a bit of a stupor, "You know what?" She turned behind her, "Baxter! Donavon! Get over here!"
Two men walked over and stood by, looking between Jennifer, according to her form, and Penny.
"Here, Penny. These are my partners, they will also fill out your form." Penny smiled and handed them each a form which they started filling out. Other people started walking over, which led to Penny explaining the form to them and her handing out more forms. She stood patiently, looking at the wall as six people started filling out her forms at the front desk.
