LUCY RATHAWAY squirmed in the metal chair she was sitting in. It wasn't an interrogation room, per se, there was no two-way mirror or a large looming light. There were more than two chairs in the room, albeit, still uncomfortable metal ones, but it was better than nothing. The room itself looked more like a waiting room and it seemed like it mostly served the purpose of creating some privacy from the rest of the precinct.
The 'trip downtown' that Lucy took really wasn't all that bad that was shown in the police and crime shows she would watch after the kids went to bed. Perhaps it was because they didn't have a crime or reason to shove her in the back of a police car, but the nerves were finally settling in after driving herself, Peter, Genevieve, Aspen, and Penny to the police station.
She glanced at the kids around the room in various states of panic. Peter seemed more angry to be here (or angry to have been caught more like it). Genevieve, on the outside, was cool and calm but Lucy could tell that the longer she spent in this room, the more panic would slowly seep into her features. Aspen was currently calming down Penny by holding her hands and trying to distract her, the poor thing was practically bouncing up and down in her entire seat in anxiety.
Lucy straightened up in the seat as the door opened, revealing a tall man, the same detective that came to her door (Detective Joe West if her memory served her correctly), holding an armful of files. He didn't try to be menacing and even sent a small smile to Aspen and Penny.
"Hi, Ms. Rathaway, I hoped we could have a small chat." Detective West inquired.
Lucy nodded and Detective West settled himself in a seat across from Lucy. She pointed at all the kids in the room, "Do they need to be in here while we talk?" She asked.
"Well," He started to say, "I'd also like to get their perspective of today, but we can do that a little later, one at a time. You can send them out for now if you'd like." He offered.
"Thanks, that'd be great," Lucy responded while grabbing her purse and taking out a small wad of bills, handing it to Genevieve who stood up to leave.
"Here, go get some snacks from the vending machines and I'll come get you," Lucy instructed Genevieve who nodded and then led Peter, Aspen, and Penny out of the room.
Lucy waited until the door closed to continue her conversation with Detective West.
"So, what is this exactly about?" She questioned.
She knew there were two probable ways this interrogation could go.
It could simply be about the reported incident in the park.
