LUCY RATHAWAY was sitting at the countertop of her store while watching a few of her customers roam around the shop of shoes. She was working on finances and the possibilities of expansion while Genevieve was in the back working on her homework before working for a few hours to earn some money.
Then she got a call, but it wasn't on her store's phone, no, it was on her personal phone. When Lucy was working, she really tried to never pay attention to her personal phone, believing that if anyone with an emergency (such as her family or close friends) would also call the store phone considering the hours Lucy worked. Which were very random. But consistently random.
So Lucy ignored the first few texts she got about 30 minutes ago and didn't even bother to turn over her phone to check to see who the texts were from. She just continued to help another customer check out. But then more and more texts came flooding through and Lucy was now just ignoring the mystery person who wanted her attention so badly in spite. Was it petty? Yes. Did Lucy care? No.
But then she got a call from the phone that was screen down on the counter and Lucy was through with it. She couldn't think of one person that knew her and wouldn't try the store phone after not getting a response from her personal. Even the kids' schools' knew to call the other if one doesn't respond.
As Lucy turned over the phone to see who was calling her, she groaned. Of course, it was Cisco. This was a total Cisco thing to do. She didn't even check what the texts were about before swiping the green call button over, accepting the call.
"Hello?" She answered Cisco while keeping the annoyance out that was slowly seeping into her tone.
Cisco wasted no time getting to the point. "Why did you not answer any of my texts? We need you at S.T.A.R. Labs." He said rather crossly.
Her friend's tone reminded her of her father when he learned that she turned down Yale for Columbia. Her father had only said a handful of words to Lucy throughout their relationship and at least half of those words were from this argument. Even though Hartley convinced her to go to the dinner with their parents, it still didn't mean she forgave them.
"Cisco, I can't leave my shop. I'm working right now." She whisper-yelled at Cisco as she turned around so the customers couldn't see the conversation. Or at least the mildly annoyed face of Lucy.
Cisco practically yelled a reply into the phone which made Lucy hold it a little farther from her ear, "Well, you're going to have to close!"
"Can this not wait?" Lucy replied while rolling her eyes. She didn't care that Cisco wouldn't see the gesture. If he was here and he did see, he should just be glad it wasn't the middle finger.
"No, because Barry is go-" Then silence. Silence came from the other side of the phone, but Lucy knew he was still there. She could hear his breath intake and a quiet swear.
"Barry is what?" Lucy asked with a new tone. Now she was super annoyed and wanted to know what Cisco was keeping from her.
Some indistinct mumbling came from the phone and Lucy couldn't make out any of the words.
"What?" Lucy asked again, truly not hearing what Cisco was saying.
"Barry got vaporized and we thought he was dead but now we think he's alive," Cisco said rather quickly.
Now it was Lucy's turn to go silent. Barry was dead. But now he's alive. But is he really dead? Why didn't they tell her? Why didn't they tell her! This had obviously not JUST happened and they didn't think to tell Lucy? To even give her a heads up like "Hey btw Barry got poofed and he may be dead, gtg ttyl"
