I'm startled awake to the sounds of those giggles and howling winds. I stand up quickly, noticing that all of my new friends are still asleep.

How can they not hear this?

How can they not feel this?

The fire has burned out, and I can only assume that it's around midnight at the moment.

Even Ben, who was supposed to be keeping watch, is fast asleep.

I spin around, looking for any signs of It.

Instantly, my eyes are drawn to a red balloon.

I'm drawn over to it, despite knowing that I shouldn't get any closer. It's like I don't have any control over my movements.

Is this a nightmare?

Or is this actually happening to me?

It feels so much like reality that I can't even tell anymore.

Once I'm only a feet feet away from the balloon, it turns around and I read what is written on it.

[WaNnA pLaY?]

Suddenly, it pops in my face and some sort of substance lands on my face. I wipe it off to see that it's blood.

I spit out as much as I can, really regret having had my mouth be dropped open at that exact moment and time.

I nearly regurgitate at this, but force myself to keep it down.

When I look up once more, there stands that clown. Smiling as it stares me down. Predator versus prey.

I'm the prey.

It lunges at me and I shriek, stumbling backwards. It manages to land a scratch on my face when my eyes open.

This time, my eyes are actually open.

It was all a nightmare.

I frantically wipe my face with my hands, and nothing comes off. Meaning no blood from the balloon.

My face then begins to sting, and I wince. I gingerly touch the bridge of my nose and cheeks where it hurts, and hurriedly pull away.

On my fingers lay blood.

My blood.

My heart keeps racing, and the scratches on my face keep burning.

For the rest of the night, my eyes keep searching for It. My paranoia nearly gets the best of me, to the point where I'm about to sob, when daylight comes.

A few things were true from that hellish nightmare: That was a visit from It, the scratches were real damage inflicted on me, the time was set as the same as in real life, and Ben really had fallen asleep during his shift.
