CHRISTMAS.

The snow laid against the road of the City of Manchester, it was unusual for snow to come exactly on Christmas day — but this year, it came completely unexpectedly overnight.

This meant that at 9am that morning, children were already out on the streets playing with snow. Whether they were making snow figures, having snowball fights or making snow angels, at least every kid in the city was out at the moment; at least, that was the case for Alexandra's block.

The teenager lived in a small square of houses, around Southern Manchester, and on this square — everyone knew everyone, and everyone knew everyone's gossip. This had it's upsides and downsides, as it meant kids could know each other before attending school,
or that there would always be someone to talk to close by. But this also meant that rumours were not uncommon.

Whether it was a rumoured affair with someone else on the square, or that someone was moving away and leaving everyone, the residents here seemed to believe almost everything that was told to them.

Unlike some, Alexandra didn't like this at all, as it seemed everyday she was rumoured to be with a new boy who lived there, my 72nd problem with being single she told herself.

Since Alexandra had moved to England from Iceland, she'd always had a problem with boys. It wasn't that she was pretty - by god she was beautiful; she had wavey light blonde hair, and the most stunning green eyes that could surely attract any boy near her. But her problem was that she could never talk to them, she'd get nervous and cramped up whenever someone ( not only a boy ) would talk to her, and now being eighteen, it was becoming an issue.

"Are you not going out Alex?" Her mom spoke softly to her, as she sat down next to the Icelandic-born girl who was staring out the window.
"It's too cold, Timmy went out, didn't he?" She replied slowly, running her fingers through her thin hair strands.

"Já, he's out there now, according to Helen though a boy around your age who used to live here is coming to see what it's like and visit the kids here - he's famous or something - but also totally modest, why don't you go out and see what's going on?" Her mother smiled to her. Alexandra sighed before grabbing her hair band off the table to tie her hair into a small messy bun.
"Fine I'll check on Timmy, but I don't care about a stupid famous boy"

She grabbed her coat before slowly exiting the house, and of course, was greeted by a snowball to the face.
"Hvað í fjandanum" She yelled, assuming it was her younger brother who had thrown the ball of ice. Oh shit! She heard a voice yell from behind her, in the direction that the ball came from, she turned on her heel before being met with a dazzling smile and a hand on her shoulder.

"I'm so so sorry, I thought you were Timmy, fuck" He said, panicking in his mind.
"It's fine, don't worry!" Alexandra replied, smiling slightly. "I'll just get you back later" She softly laughed, and to her surprise, so did he.

"Anyway, I'm Phil, and you?" He smiled, putting his hand out. She looked at him awkwardly and attempted to talk - but instead was stopped by her issue. "Are you okay? Is it the snowball? Fuck is it the snowball" He asked repeatedly to which she shook her head over and over again.
"My names Alex" She finally burst out, which was shocking to her, as she'd never been able to overcome it, and to which he smiled back.

"Very pretty name, suits you, anyway come with me, I wanna show you something" Phil grabbed Alexandra's hand and ran over to somewhere behind the houses, with her closely following. He moved a tree branch over slightly, before revealing a huge den covered in snow, with lights all around the trees.
"How did you have time to build this?" She said, staring and exploring in awe.
"I didn't today, but I did six years ago, I just replace the lights every few weeks" He replied, sitting down on a small log in the corner.

"It's so beautiful" She smiled up at the trees covered in lights. "Merry Christmas"
"Merry Christmas to you too, Alex"
