your povThe two men stare at each other as they sat across from each other at the dinner table, me next to Daeshim. It was awkward, even though I offered tea-which they both refused. I tried. I ate my takeout silently as they continued to stay quiet.
At this rate, their food probably have gone cold.
"What brings you here?" Daeshim repeats through gritted teeth while Dr. Park continues to stay silent, shrugging. They seemed to have something against each other, never having to break eye contact, as if one would lose if they did.
I didn't know what was going on, but I was obviously getting annoyed. It was my first dinner back, and I didn't want it ruined.
I clenched my first before slamming my hand onto the table, both of them flinching at my sudden eruption. Their heads turned towards me, looking at the source of where the loud sound had come from. "Can we just eat? Silently?" I sighed loudly-getting irritated at their behaviors that I've never seen before. Well, I've never really seen Dr. Park's behavior, but I've never seen him so... tense?
"Whatever you have between you, could you please put it aside for now?" I looked between them both. "I want to eat my food," and I wasn't lying. I wanted to eat in peace, without two bulls running at each other at 100 miles per hour.
Dr. Park nodded first before Daeshim silently nodded, agreeing. I picked up my chopsticks, Dr. Park and Daeshim doing the same as we all ate our food. "How are the first few hours of getting home? Is your recovery going well?" Dr. Park spoke up first. Daeshim seemed to tense.
Wiping my mouth with a napkin, "Hobi picked me up and drove me home," I smiled. "So yeah, it's been well," although Daeshim wasn't able to pick me up, I was glad Hobi did. My mood seems to always get better whenever Hobi pops into my head. An actual ray of sunshine. "I didn't really get to do anything else when I got home, but being able to see people without restrictions again has been the best."
Dr. Park seemed to understand, to which he nodded and smiler.
I looked down at my lap, trying to prevent myself from blushing. Taking a deep breath and picking up a piece of food with my chopsticks, I looked up finding Daeshim with his jaw clenched again.I smiled, placing my free hand onto his thigh under the table. He broke out of his trance, looking down at me and his jaw unclenched and his eyes softened. He was definitely going to get interrogated tonight.
Throughout dinner, I tried making small talk with the two men, but I didn't get any good answers from any of them. It was either 'yes', 'no', or 'good'. I gave up in the middle, silently agreeing to just eat my food.
Daeshim's phone chimes in his pocket as he immediately placed his chopsticks down and reached into his pocket, pulling his phone out. I wonder what could be so important. His thumbs glide on the keyboard swiftly, himself seemingly to be in a trance on his phone.
His eyebrows furrowed, then unfurrowed as he continually replied to the sender. I looked over to Dr. Park, him seemingly seeming just as confused as I was.
"There's an emergency at work," his tone more serious. Daeshim stood up and grabbed him jacket, quickly putting it on before I could even say a word.
"What?" I quickly stood up, following him as he speedily walks to the door-grabbing his keys on the key hook. "Why now?" I trailed behind him.
"Babe, I'll be back, okay?" He kissed my forehead swiftly. "There's just... something that happened at work," he smiled before his eyes landed on Dr. Park-who sat in the same place behind me.
Daeshim stared at him for a moment. "I don't like him," Daeshim whispered loud enough so only I could hear.
"I know," I whispered back, not knowing what else to say. Should I apologize? Because he doesn't like him? Should I agree with him? Even though I don't?
"I'll be back, don't do anything," He grabbed my arm and putting on a smile. I gulped, looking up at him before he lets go and leaves the house, quickly slamming the door behind him.
I held my arm with my other hand, shaking my head, trying to erase the images. "Are you okay?" I flinched as Dr. Park walks up behind me.
I nodded, not wanting to get into further detail, I quickly changed the subject. "Dr. Park, how did you get my address?"
"Oh, you can call me Jimin whenever I'm outside of my uniform- and I obviously followed you here," Dr. Park smirked. My eyes widened as I instinctively took a few steps backward. "I was kidding, your address was on your medical record and I felt like I owed you an apology-which is why I'm here, right now".
"I also wanted to check up on you and see how my very first patient is doing on her recovery," he smiled softly.
"Why do you feel like you need to apologize to me?" I asked, rubbing my arm. "All you've done is help me recover," I mumbled, looking down.
"No, I do owe you an apology".
I looked up at him, tilting my head in confusion. "I know you've noticed. I was avoiding you, even when you called out to me. I'm not supposed to do that-as a doctor and a human being. I can't bring myself to believe that I did that to you, even up to the moments where you left the hospital. I felt so bad that I did that for a dumb reason," he was the one to look down this time.
I did notice it, that's the thing. My mood would always drop whenever he'd ignore me when I'd get wheeled around or whenever I tried to talk to him non-medically in the hospital rooms.
"Dr.P- Jimin, you did that for two months," I said, fidgeting with my fingers.
"I know, I'm sorry," he whispered.
"Why did you do it?"
I was more surprised of how clear he made it.
"I was jealous. Jealous of you and Daeshim".
