We all know that parallel lines are line that never meets. No matter what circumstance, they will never ever meet. Though they have so much in common and suit each other, they just can't be together.
Dahyun and Mark are two broken-hearted people who had their hearts fixed by each other. Though they felt the same, Dahyun believed that they belong in different worlds. Mark deserves someone better than her because Mark is nothing like Youngjae who she loves and Dahyun is nothing like Momo or his other exes.
And Dahyun hated being compared to Mark. Some say they were not evenly matched with each other.
They have a lot in common that Dahyun thought that they should never meet. Just like the parallel lines. They have their own world though they have so much in common.
-----
"I can't stand looking at those two!"
"Ugh! It's hurting my eyes."
"This is unfair! They are on totally different levels."
Silence.
"Have you done complaining?"
"Not yet...I have a lot of things to complain about. Because those two don't deserve each other. Just think about it, Mark belongs to the sky while Dahyun...huh...I don't know which level is she in."
Dahyun sighed heavily as she heard the two girls have left the washroom. They didn't even consider the people around them. When they don't like it, they talk about it. For the whole day.
Dahyun has never been in that situation. She didn't know what to feel, how to act, and when will it stop.
She hated herself for having a feeling for Mark. It's not that having a feeling is a sin. But it doesn't feel right. Just like what people say, they don't match with each other.
Then, the gossip continues. The hatred spread widely. The whole school is against them.
-----
Dahyun walked out of the school, passing the school gate. Alone without Mark accompanying her. It's true that she has been avoiding making contact, meeting, or even just looking at each other from afar.
She didn't want this feeling to keep growing. She didn't want the talk to keep spreading. Because it's hurt. Both are painful to endure.
"Dahyun-aa!" Someone called for her.
She looked back and saw Youngjae. Her heart skipped a beat. Why is that happening?
"Oh, Youngjae..." She stopped and wait for Youngjae to reach her.
"It's awkward to see you walking alone. You used to walk with Mark." Youngjae said.
"Oh, yeah. I just don't feel like walking with him today." Dahyun made excuse.
"Is it because of those people talking?" Youngjae asked. Though he knew he still asked. Because he was afraid of hitting Dahyun's soft button. They have been friends since childhood, he knows a lot.
Dahyun slowly, dispiritedly nodded. She looked down at her sneakers as she started to walk again. Youngjae followed.
"You know... you can always ignore them." Youngjae said after a long silence during their walk back home.
"Easy said than done," Dahyun replied. As clear as crystal, Youngjae can see through her.
"To be honest, I don't like you being with him too." Youngjae honestly told Dahyun his thought.
"Really?" The only question Dahyun manage to ask. There was a lot she wanted to ask but she couldn't bring herself to say it.
She wanted to know 'why?' She wanted to know 'what should she feels?' She wanted to ask 'if she has other options...' But she just can't.
"Yeah... Because I was afraid that he will take you away from me. You are like my little sister. I don't know how to live without you running chasing after me." Youngjae said.
"You always chase after me. You do a lot and I don't want you to stop. I might sound selfish but, I can't risk losing you too. But, unfortunately, you stop chasing after me and to my surprise... Oh my! Someone else is chasing after you. What do I do?" Youngjae spoke out his thought.
He wasn't sure if that would help Dahyun but, he just want to let that out. He can't bear holding on to it any longer.
"Why—"
"Then, did you know..." He continued by cutting Dahyun's question.
"...when they talked about you like that. I was angry. I was furious. Then, that was when I realized, I love you more than just a friend, you are my little sister, my family. I didn't know what I was thinking back then in the classroom. I was so mad that I shouted at them..." He laughed after telling the thing that happened in the afternoon just now.
"You did what?" Dahyun was shocked. She knows Youngjae isn't someone who can easily get mad and when he did, he did not show his emotions to people, he usually kept it to himself and then complain after he got back home and Dahyun is the one who always listen to his complaint.
But this time, Youngjae acted differently. He acted out of his characters. That was a total surprise.
"You really did that?" Dahyun asked once again still unsure about what she had heard. She looked at the laughing mess Youngjae, she was flabbergasted.
"You know what I learned from today?" Youngjae asked as he finally gained consciousness. Dahyun remained silent waiting for the next words to come.
"I finally come out from my comfort zone." He continued.
Comfort zone. What a nice word.
Dahyun shook her head as they continued to walk until they reached their own home.
What is her comfort zone? She has been thinking about it since she reached her home. Sitting at her study desk, thinking about this whole 'comfort zone' thing.
'My comfort zone, would it be...'
'Mark?' Then she laughed silently. "That's impossible. Totally absurd."
"We may be together now but, we know that we belong in a different world."
"We are far separated just like the parallel lines."
