"Dragging the other gem, Aamber exited the clearing, pursued by his group of followers. Coral shrugged, and I walked alongside her and Pearl...
"Did you honestly think that water and pressure made gems?" Pearl asked, slightly ticked off.
"Eh, it seemed to be like that in your case."
"There are significantly more factors that go into making a gem. Look at Amber! His gem formed out of tree resin, he was clearly eroded by water, but it would take ages for a gem to form. Hardening would take thousands, potentially millions of years! One of the main factors in making a gem is likely time, and that's not mentioning the other ones-" Pearl ranted, and she continued to do so until we were almost at camp and had caught up to Aamber.
"What do you make of her? She's been hanging limply and hasn't been doing anything for the entire walk. I'm just going to bathe her in the hot spring near the camp because she is filthy. I can't even tell what color she is."
"She seemed quite aggressive when trying to punch her way out of that rock, what made you think to dig a hole next to her?"
"It wasn't that hard to assume that the stone around the hole was weaker, I was more lucky that the whole thing didn't collapse. The hot spring is to the right, can you go get Ambrosia for me, we're going to need her information."
"Oh yeah, um, sure!"
Me, Coral, and Pearl took off after the other crowd of Ambers while Aamber went to clean off the strange gem.
When we arrived at camp, we got Ambrosia and headed back to where Aamber was, who was soaking the gem in a hot pool. The whole thing smelled faintly of sulfur, and steam was sticking to your face and rising from countless vents.
"Look at this punk, she's got a complexion, for certain."
Upon seeing her cleaner, she appeared to have light gray hair in a short bob, which ended in a sharp point that bent along her cheeks. Her skin was a very dark gray, and she wore a simple unitard with short sleeves and long pants. Her gem was located on her upper chest, close to her neck, and she had two light gray circles surrounding it, her feet were covered in black boots, that ended in a white toe. Her face was slightly angled, and she had deep, black eyes which swirled around like the night sky. She also had white freckles on her face and bandages on her lower arm and covering her hand, stuck to her palm and back of hand. But what was most curious about her was her gem, a deep, glossy black that reflected the sunlight but only made it more hypnotizing to the eyes.
"Why, her gem is jet-black! I hope that won't be a problem."
"Jet-black?"
"Yeah, its a little analogy I came up with to describe the blackest of nights. Why don't we call her that for now."
"Fine by me." Aamber commented, putting the now soaking Jet onto a steam vent.
Ambrosia came forward, touched her hand to Jet's gemstone, and something startling happened. Jet went rigid, her arms and legs freezing up. Everyone but Ambrosia stood back because no gem had never reacted like this. Her eyes became a bright green and flickered, her mouth, which had closed when she went rigid, began to drop. Her eyes began to glow brighter and brighter until they became comparable to the likes of the sun, but tinted green. Once the transfer was complete, Ambrosia stepped back, and we all stared at Jet. Her eyes, whose glow eventually ceased, twitched a few times, her limbs remained rigid, all the while laying there. She blinked, and her eyes resumed to the way they had been. She then pulled herself upright, and stared at us.
"Who... are you?"
It worked! Jet was finally with us, fully, Pearl leaped into Corals arms, I high-fived Aamber (something we had made up on the spot), and Ambrosia hugged Aamber.
"Uh, you didn't answer my question." Jet said, observing the fanfare with a very perplexed look on her face.
"Sorry, sorry," I said, pointing from left to right, "This is Coral, Pearl, Aamber, Ambrosia, and I'm Amber."
"Well, its very nice to meet you all. Do I have a name? I certainly can't think of it for the life of me."
"You're Jet, and you're a Gem like us!"
"Fascinating."
Coral intervened, "We should be heading back, the others will be so excited!"
Jet asked, "Others? There are more of you?"
I took Jet by the shoulder, "Well, I'm sure they'd be happy to meet you nonetheless."
Jet looked indecisive for a few seconds, and then said, "Well, if you insist."
And so our party headed back. Many gems were curious about Jet, and the Ambers threw a "party" to celebrate. It was tremendous fun, there was dancing, talking, and for anyone who felt like it, eating, which was something on its own that was fun to try. At the end of it all, when everyone went back, Coral revealed she had carved out a new space on the rock for me and Jet to share, which although it was awkward to have a roommate at first, we warmed up to each other after hours of talking. Afterwards, life continued as normal, expanding the camp, discovery of new mechanisms, new abilities we uncovered, and meeting new gems. It was a routine really, but there was always something enjoyable about it, and we could have been content with our life. The existence of Ambers alongside Pearls, Corals, and Jets. If you could work and had a positive personality, you would always be welcome here.
"Well, that was a lovely story." said White.
"Uh, White Diamond... it's not over."
"Pardon?"
"There's still a lot left to go..."
"Oh. Well, um, do tell." said White, clearly nervous, and she began to sweat as she sat down on her throne.
"White, are you alright?" asked Blue.
"Yes, I'm... fine." replied White, clearly uncomfortable with what was about to come.
"If you insist," said Yellow, "Now, keep reading, please."
"Of course, Yellow Diamond." said Jeremejevite, and so he did.
