The gym is started to fill up quickly during the JV warm-ups. All of my friends are on JV for the most part. I miss playing with all of them but I'd rather be playing better competition on varisty, so I don't complain. I deserved to be on varisty, I'd been practing with them for a while now and getting better everyday. Even though I'm only 5'4 I most likely have a future in volleyball, my mom is only 1 or 2 inches taller than me and she played on a full scholarship. That's always been my goal, to play in college get my degree and be done, I don't want to have kids for a while after college either just work, save money and hopefully be married.
"Hey #14!! Did you hear me?" one of my teammates jerks me from my thoughts.
"Oh no sorry I was not paying attention, what did you say?" I quickly apologize.
"We are going to the locker room to get ready, the first game just finished. We won!" Beks says.
It's already the second game? I must've been daydreaming for a while now. "Ok, I'm coming!"
In the locker room the girls talk about their day and started making fun of a lot of the girls who dressed up for their first day. We were all about the comfortable not cute look for the most part. Don't get me wrong, I do like to dress up here and there just show there's more then just the homeless girl look, but I'd normally rather get the 30 extra minutes of sleep in then the 30 minutes it would take to put on makeup.
"How are we warming up tonight?" one of the girls asks.
"Let's just stick to how we always warm up." one of the others sarcastically responds.
With that said and our shoes on, we go out to the court and start warming up. I'm warming up with my partner Liv when I over hear someone in the stands.
"I am just already so ready to talk to him. He seems quiet but I bet after I get to know him he won't be. I'm sure Ali already has her sights set on him." Sure enough, it's Heather talking to my group of friends about the new eye candy at school today.
I think his name was Marvel, everyone was flipping out about his tall slender body and wavy long hair. He certainly did stand out because he's the new guy, and is easy on the eyes, but I would never admit it to anyone because they would automatically assume I like him. I don't have time to deal with boys this year, so I never even said anything to him today, I think we have 2 classes together.
"Just stop about Ali, I never even saw her look at him today. She's trying to actually focus on what is important, leave her alone." Lyla snaps. Major points for her right now.
"We will see how long that lasts." Heather snarks.
While we are in the huddle I notice a swoosh of a head walking into the gym, sure enough there's Marvel with what looks like his parents and a young girl. Probably his sister. I look over to see Heather getting a little to excited. God she's desperate.
"Marvel! Hey come sit with us!" Heather yells a little to loudly.
She gives me a smirk and I ignore her. What is her deal? Why is she acting like this? I literally couldn't give a crap about Marvel.
When the game starts I can't help but feel bad for Marvel, she's probably asking him a million questions or playing two truths and a lie by now. All she tells is lies though, so I'm not sure how that game really works for her.
After we win the first game, Marvel moves to sit with his family. Why am I paying so much attention to this? I need to focus.
The match is over and the crowd is clapping for our win! We won in 4 so it was a good game to come watch, we had it in the bag the whole time, just made a few errors in game 3 that got us the loss. I head to locker room to change and get my bags. I walk out to find Heather hugging Marvel and talking about plans to eat lunch together tomorrow. Good for them, now maybe she'll hop off my back. Or who knows, maybe things will somehow get worse.
