(Part 1)
After her death, he had become a shell. Refusing to break, refusing to let anyone in. All day he would keep her picture beside him and stare blankly outside. At night, he would, keep her spot empty beside him and fall asleep, pretending she was next to him.
"Enough!", cried Helen, his mother, "it has been over a year now, honey. Why don't you go out? Wouldn't she want you to live your life? C'mon."
"Mom, I don't wanna go", he sighed.
"Noah", she said in a voice that warned better not to cross her.
He sighed and got up. He took his purse, which had her picture and went for a stroll in the park nearby. They often went there when either of them was feeling down. It was his favorite place to go, he often went there and pretended that she was beside him, laughing and talking.
Is there absolutely no way to get her back?
She is dead, replied his logical sense.
Yeah, but...
Suddenly the idea of summoning ghosts struck him. He had been watching a documentary of a lady who summoned her dead husband, the other day. He suddenly became desperate to summon the ghost of his love, his lost love. Excitement and hope rose in his chest.
Finally, after many rough months, he smiled.
A few days later, his mom asked him, leaning on the doorway, "Listen, I better not come back to my house a haunted place two weeks later. Is that clear, Noah?"
Noah just nodded and set up the room for his 'ghost summoning plan'. He wanted to bring back his old love and talk to her once, which was his ultimate aim. He had called his close uncle, who was a Chief.
"Okay, bye sweetie", his mom said kissing his forehead.
His mom sighed and muttered to herself, "God knows what he's gonna do, it won't even work." Then she left. She was just happy to see her son happy, but she feared what would happen if he failed.
His equipment set up and ready, he and his uncle, along with some of his co-workers, sat down to connect their world to the spirit world. He warned it could never work, even after the ten days. He confessed that they had never succeeded in summoning. But Noah did not seem to care. Mantras were chanted, candles were lit, and various methods were used, but nothing good came of it at the end, on the first day.
The pattern went on for nine days straight. Every day they sat down, did all rituals necessary and sincerely called out for the connection with the other world, but got up with no signs of connection at all. On their last day, when they sat down, all of Noah's hopes were lost and all he wished for was death. After all when he can't bring her back here, might as well go to her world.
They, as usual, sat down with lit candles and folded hands. They started their mantras. Today, all Noah wished for, was one, only one small sign that his love, was still around him, still watching him, just like she had promised him.
He closed his eyes and thought of her. Her smile, her laugh, and the way she called his name, how her hair flowed in the air, how disturbing her tears were to him, how she used to cheer him up, always.
He recalled their last days, the last time she held his hand, and how she smiled, and said, she would definitely marry him. His memories shifted to the day of her death, he could clearly see the scene in front of his eyes; her lifeless body lay in front of him covered in blood. Her car just a few yards from her and her limbs spread at unnatural angles. Her eyes and mouth open, as if screaming for help.
